AP Cabanas Beach & Nature has 340 rooms, all light, modern and geared towards switching off after a day in the sun. Expect air conditioning, a balcony or terrace and a choice of outlook depending on what you book, with options that look towards the pools, the lagoon or out towards the Atlantic.

Standard rooms are simple, comfortable and well set up for a golf break. Clean-lined décor, practical storage and a good base if you plan to be out on the course most days. Step up to a Superior room for a bit more space and, typically, a better view over the water. If you're travelling as a four-ball and like having a separate spot to review the scorecards, the larger suites are the pick, with extra living space that makes sharing feel a lot less cramped. Décor is contemporary without trying too hard, pale wood, neutral tones and enough storage to unpack your entire golf bag if that's your style.

Food and drink is a strong point here. The main restaurant covers breakfast and themed dinner service, while a more relaxed poolside option handles lighter lunches, grilled fish and daytime plates. For the evening, there's an à la carte restaurant that puts local seafood and Algarve flavours front and centre. The rooftop bar is the natural meeting point after golf, especially at sunset, cold beer and enough small plates to keep you going until dinner. There's also a lobby bar for coffee or a quieter nightcap.

Leisure facilities are geared towards recovery. Access to the AP Elements SPA thermal area is included, a welcome extra for a golf break, with a sauna, Turkish bath and Jacuzzi, and treatments such as massages and facials are available at an extra cost. The gym is modern, well-equipped and gets decent natural light. Two outdoor pools sit in landscaped gardens, and the heated indoor pool is there when the weather turns or you want to loosen up before an early tee time. Add it all up and you've got enough on-site to justify a rest day between rounds.
