Aphrodite Hills Resort Hotel

Perched on the clifftops above Paphos, Aphrodite Hills Resort serves up big Mediterranean views and one seriously good golf break. It's a proper 5-star set-up where you can play a championship track in the morning and be in the spa by mid-afternoon if the swing's gone missing. The PGA National Cyprus course has earned its place among the top golf resorts in Europe, a Cabell B. Robinson design that threads through ravines, olive groves and carob trees before tumbling towards the sea. Named European Golf Resort of the Year in 2018, this is a venue that delivers where it matters, a strong hotel, loads to do off-course and a course you'll want to play twice.

The resort sits just 15 minutes from Paphos International Airport, making it one of the most accessible premium golf destinations in the Mediterranean. With Cyprus' golf-friendly weather, it's a smart shout for winter golf when the UK is on temporary greens. The PGA National Cyprus has hosted back-to-back €1 million tournaments, the Cyprus Open and Cyprus Showdown, proof that this course can test the best while remaining playable for the rest of us.

Beyond the golf, Aphrodite Hills offers everything you'd expect from a world-class resort: the Retreat Spa with 24 treatment rooms, a tennis academy, padel courts, cycling centre, private beach club and a Village Square lined with restaurants, bars and boutiques. It's the kind of place where you can spend a week without leaving the estate, yet still feel like you've explored something new each day.

Who is this for? Golfers or groups seeking a premium Mediterranean break that combines a genuine championship test with 5-star resort facilities, spa, dining and easy airport access.

Who is it best for? Couples and groups who want a complete golf resort experience, serious golfers chasing a Top 100 European layout, and anyone looking to swap UK winter layers for reliably warmer weather and proper greens.

Golf Courses at Aphrodite Hills Resort Hotel

PGA National Cyprus

Recently renovated in 2017, PGA National Cyprus is Cabell B. Robinson doing what he does best, using the land. You'll play across two plateaus, with ravines, lakes and olive groves shaping the strategy rather than just framing the view. From the back tees it's a proper test, but the tee options make it a fair resort round for mixed-ability groups.

The course was built with an eye towards hosting prestigious international tournaments, and it's proved its credentials by staging the PGA Europro Tour Championship in 2010 and, more recently, back-to-back €1 million events in 2020. Set up from the tips, this layout can test even the finest players, but the variety of tees ensures it remains playable and enjoyable for the average visitor. It's a resort course in the best sense, challenging without being punishing, strategic without being tricked up.

Robinson has used the landscape to create a number of standout holes. The short 7th sits at the foot of a gaping ravine, a nerve-testing tee shot that demands precision over power. I'll admit it, the finish here is the bit you remember, that island-style 18th can turn a good card into a great one, or the other way round. The 3rd offers a thrill-of-a-lifetime tee shot for anyone who can carry 200 metres with a driver, a seemingly endless carry over a gorge that's only as far as it looks if you succeed. The 8th and 15th deliver fantastic sea views, while the 12th demands real courage to reach the back pin position. Robinson himself rates the 16th as the toughest par 4 on the course.

The course is supported by a top-quality golf academy, with a double-ended range, dedicated short-game zone and a three-hole academy course for sharpening your skills before or after your round.

Favourite holes (according to designer, Cabell B. Robinson):
❝If you can carry 200 metres with your driver, you should try the back tee on the 3rd. It looks forever over the gorge, but it is only that far to reach safety. It is a thrill of a lifetime shot if you succeed. The 7th deep within the bowels of the canyon is another dramatic shot, while fantastic sea views are to be had at the 8th and 15th. Personally I think reaching for the back pin position on the 12th needs the most courage, while the 16th is my pick for the toughest par 4, and the 18th is a reachable and wonderful par 5.❞

Every room features a private balcony or terrace with views over the golf course, gardens, communal pools or the Mediterranean below. The interiors follow a classical Mediterranean style, light and airy, with deluxe bathrooms that include separate walk-in baths and showers, bathrobes, beach towels, mini bar, safe, satellite television and full air conditioning.

The hotel's façade and public spaces carry the same 5-star quality, a level of finish that's evident from arrival to departure. For groups or larger families wanting more space and privacy, the Holiday Residences offer self-catering apartments with private pools, ideal for those who prefer villa-style accommodation while still enjoying full resort access.

Dining spans twelve restaurants and bars across the resort, from Asian fine dining to an adult-only pool bar. El Sabor serves light Mexican-inspired dishes during the day, while the Sunset Bar offers live jazz and cocktails as the sun drops. The Village Square adds another seven venues, including Pithari Tavern for traditional Greek cuisine, Gate to India, and two pubs, Anoi and The Beer Garden. The Golf Lounge is where golfers gather to dissect the day's play, while the Clubhouse Restaurant delivers a 5-star menu packed with regional favourites and international classics. It's the kind of dining variety that keeps a week-long stay interesting, whether you're after a quick bite between rounds or a proper sit-down meal.

The Retreat Spa sits at the heart of the resort, a haven built around the Thermae, a Greco-Roman hydrotherapy complex centred on a grand colonnade. Across 24 treatment rooms and garden massage huts, many overlooking the sea, the spa offers everything from specialised hydrotherapy and body wraps to manicures, pedicures and massages, all using the luxury Pevonia product range.

Beyond the spa, the resort's leisure facilities include a tennis academy with four clay courts and five hard-surface courts, two padel tennis courts, a basketball pitch, soccer school and cycling centre. Hotel guests have access to the Bonemare beach club, a private pebbled beach open May to October and located within 15 minutes' drive, plus the resort's swimming pools, sauna and spa pool. The Village Square serves as the social hub, with bars, restaurants, a bank, chapel, pharmacy, supermarket and designer boutiques all within easy reach.

The food was great in both buffet and a la carte restaurants, great breakfast too! Only had a few beers so no idea on the drinks but most people seemed to be enjoying. Staff in the bars/restaurants were really nice and friendly

We had an all inclusive option which worked out to be very good value, the hotel was fairly quiet, early February, and a really friendly homely feeling. Not sure it would feel as welcoming of it was busier.

Nice stay but parts of the hotel are becoming tired due to under-investment. Winter mode also meant showers at indoor heated pool were stone cold, as was the cooked breakfast buffet it seemed.

This is a comfortable hotel, albeit getting a little dated now it is very well kept in terms of cleanliness, rooms and beds are large and fairly quiet. We found the allinclusive option drinks to be below expectations especially wine and most of the food bordered on average - avoid Jasmine which was very poor.its a very easy location for golf and the hotel is easy to find too from the airport.

overall a fantastic place lovely friendly staff excellent restaurants very clean and tidy the golf course is immaculate and a real test the only negative is having to get up early every morning to secure a bed around the pool you should not have to do this in a 5* resort However overall a wonderful place for both golfers and non golfers highly recommended for a duel golf/holiday destination We will go back

Very much a family resort, lots of things for kids....more than adults. Golf club across the road from hotel so very convenient. Rooms are in blocks dotted around the resort, very comfy bed and well cleaned every day.

There were only 1 or 2 choices for food every night in December with about 6 restaurants closed due to off-season. No local food was on offer which was the biggest disappointment of the trip. However, the staff were fantastic and Laura at the Anoi pub was keeping the whole thing going almost single-handed.... The room was excellent with views over the course and impeccably clean. Taxi into Paphos for Greek food helped overcome the lack of local cuisine in the hotel (about 65 euros return).
