Bundoran Golf Club sits on a dramatic clifftop headland jutting into Donegal Bay, just five minutes' walk from the town centre and right on the Wild Atlantic Way. Established in 1894, this par 70 links was designed by six-time Open champion Harry Vardon, who believed a great course should "give pleasure to golfers of all degrees of ability".
At 5,338 yards from the yellow tees it looks short on the card, but don't be fooled. Firm, fast greens and plenty of exposure mean the wind has a big say, and it rewards players who can flight the ball and think their way round rather than simply hit it hard.
The setting is a huge part of the appeal. With the Dartry Mountains behind and the bay in front, you'll often spot seals in the water below, and on a big swell you can see surfers working the breaks beneath the cliffs. The Roguey Walk runs alongside the course too, so there's always a bit of life and atmosphere around the place.
If you're building a north-west links trip, Bundoran is a genuine, old-school stop that's easy to reach, easy to walk and perfectly placed for post-round food and a pint in town.
