Conwy Golf Club

Conwy Golf Club is one of North Wales' standout links tests, set right where the River Conwy meets the Irish Sea. You get proper seaside golf here, with Conwy Mountain on one side and the estuary opening out in front of you.

How it plays

This is classic linksland, so expect firm turf, running approaches and plenty of movement in the ground. When the wind gets up (and it often does along the estuary), holes that look straightforward on the card suddenly need a bit of thinking. Keep it under control, use the contours and you'll get those satisfying links bounces. Miss your lines and the course can quickly start dictating terms.

Conwy has serious pedigree too, having been named Welsh Golf Club of the Year in 2007 and with a track record of hosting high-level senior tournament golf. The layout itself is the real draw though, with enough elevation change and natural movement to keep you honest across all 18.

Off the course

You're also perfectly placed for a trip along the North Wales Coastline, with other quality tracks nearby and the walled town of Conwy on your doorstep for castle views and a solid post-round bite. Fancy building it into a North Wales golf break? Conwy is an easy one to pair with other coastal favourites in the area.

Who is it best for?

Conwy Golf Club

The Caernarvonshire coastline is often buffeted by stiff winds, which makes Conwy a serious test at times. The history of the golf course is tumultuous; the original layout was conceived in 1869, but the two World Wars had a profound effect on the transformation of the links. Almost lost in the 1940s, Conwy as it is known now is the result of golf architect Frank Pennink's vision.

Rugged and unflashy, Conwy is a seaside gem, and is a classic option for a golf tour in North Wales.

Conwy Golf Club is ranked as one of the best courses in Wales
