Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa

Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa is one of those Gran Canaria resorts that makes organising a golf trip feel almost too easy. You're based in smart Meloneras, close to the Atlantic and within strolling distance of the Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve, so even your non-golfers have plenty to do while you're chasing winter sun and better turf than back home.

The hotel is big, no getting around that, but it's laid out in a way that still feels airy around the pools and gardens. And when you're planning a few rounds, that matters, because you want everything to be simple, from breakfast to getting out the door to the first tee.

If you're the type who likes a resort where golf is the main event but the post-round options are strong, this place ticks plenty of boxes. You've got a standout spa for recovery days, a proper choice of bars for a sundowner and enough dining variety to keep groups happy over a long weekend or a full week.

The resort sits right by Meloneras beach, with the lighthouse at the edge of the promenade marking the southern end of the complex. It's sizeable, with 1,136 rooms spread across the site, but the upside is choice: different room categories, plenty of public space and multiple pool areas, so it rarely feels like everyone is in the same place at once.

Who is this for? Golfers looking for a reliable winter-sun break with easy access to quality courses, strong spa and pool facilities, and enough dining variety to suit groups or couples staying four nights or longer.

Who is it best for? Mid-to-high handicappers who want a relaxed resort base with coastal golf on the doorstep, plus anyone travelling with non-golfers who'll appreciate the spa, beach access and the range of dining options available.

Accommodation at Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa

Standard rooms come with air conditioning, satellite TV, a marble bathroom and a balcony or terrace. If you're travelling as a couple and want a bit more breathing room, or you're the one organising a society trip and want to upgrade a few key rooms, the junior suites and suites are the step up. The extra space makes a difference when you're storing clubs, hanging damp gear after a round and spreading out over a week.

Food-wise, you're covered for a week-long stay, with buffet dining for convenience and à la carte options when you want a change of pace. The buffet stations are themed and rotate through the week, covering local Canarian dishes alongside international staples, so there's enough variety to keep things interesting. The à la carte restaurants require booking, but it's worth doing at least once if you're staying longer than a few nights.

Drinks are easy too, with two main bars, four pool bars and a dedicated beer bar, which is exactly what you want when the group drifts back in at different times. Board options may include half-board or all-inclusive, depending on the package you choose, so it's worth checking what's included when you book.

The Gran Spa Corallium is the headline extra. It's built around a hydrothermal circuit and a menu of treatments that suits golfers who want to loosen up after 18, or simply book a non-golf day that still feels like part of the holiday. The circuit itself is designed around the island's volcanic origins, with different temperature pools, steam rooms and sensory showers that work well for flushing out tired legs. Hydrotherapy and chromotherapy treatments are available, alongside a full menu of massages and beauty options if you're travelling with non-golfers who want a proper spa day.

The outdoor pool is where most guests end up between rounds, soaking up the year-round sunshine that makes Gran Canaria such a reliable winter escape. There's enough lounger space that you're not fighting for a spot, even when the resort is busy, and the pool bars mean you don't have to move far for a cold drink.

The airport is around 35 kilometres away and transfers can be arranged as part of your package. Most trips include return transfers, and the journey takes around 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic and time of day. If you're hiring a car to play multiple courses across the island, there's parking on-site and the main routes to the other courses are straightforward.

Over the past couple of years we have stayed at all three of the Lopesan hotels in Meloneras, they are all very large and quite adequate. The only trouble we had this year was that our sea-view room also looked over the main courtyard area, where, everynight they staged a musical show, that was very loud and unfortunately for us early retirers went on quite late. We have also stayed at the H10 hotel, which is much smaller, of the 4 hotels the H10 would be our choice in future years.

All good , the only issue is it is a large hotel with a large number of customers which might not suit every one.

Fabulous hotel, room, food, all facilities excellent, close to the main walkway to explore bars and shops. Only little blip was because of early start times between 07.40am and 07.54am which we asked for, the shuttle bus did not operate until 08.10, no problem though, we asked reception for a taxi and it was there before we got out the door, only cost 3-4 euros, not bad for 4 people and 4 sets of clubs, and short journey as well.
