A €5 million investment programme completed in 2004 by the late Irish golf legend J.B. Carr and architect Ron Kirby helped cement Dromoland Castle as one of the greatest parkland courses in Ireland. Set in the heart of rolling Co. Clare, it's a proper estate course, mature woodland, immaculate presentation and that unmistakable "castle in the background" feel from the first tee onwards.
The layout winds through 450 acres of woodland and parkland, with water coming into play on several holes. The headline moment is the par-3 14th, a shot over the lake to a green framed by the castle itself. It's a photo hole, but it's not just for show. This is a parkland test that asks you to shape it both ways and keep it in play off the tee.
