Golf Hotel De Saint-Saens

Golf Hotel De Saint-Saens is a cracking Normandy option if you want proper countryside golf with an easy run from the Channel ports. Set beside the Eawy Forest, the Saint-Saëns course weaves through mature beech trees and feels peaceful and secluded, but it's no pushover. Expect tree-lined fairways, subtle elevation changes and plenty of holes where position off the tee matters as much as length.

Location-wise it's a simple one for UK golfers. You're in the heart of Normandy and less than two hours' drive south of Calais, which makes it ideal for a long weekend or as a base for a wider France tour. If you enjoy shaping tee shots, plotting your way around doglegs and taking your medicine when you miss a line, you'll get plenty of fun out of this layout.

Stay on-site at the Chateau du Vaudichon, a characterful 19th-century property right on the estate. With just seven bedrooms, it's more intimate than a big resort hotel, and the views across the course are a lovely bonus once you've finished your round.

Who is this for? UK golfers who want an easy-drive Normandy break with on-site golf, couples after a quiet countryside stay and small groups looking for a chateau base without resort crowds.

Who is it best for? Mid-handicappers who like tree-lined parkland courses and anyone building a Normandy itinerary who values convenience from Calais.

Note: Weekend supplements will apply, please ask for details.

Saint-Saens

The front nine is characterised by a tricky network of streams and lakes that can easily derail your scorecard early, whilst the closing stretch is on the other side of the forest, and is slightly more open.

A delightful country landscape is the setting for Saint-Saëns, where you are sure to enjoy a memorable round of golf during your next golf escape to Normandy.

Accommodation at Golf Hotel De Saint-Saens

Visitors to Saint-Saëns can stay at the Chateau du Vaudichon, a 19th-century chateau on the same estate as the golf course. It's a small, character-led option with just seven bedrooms, all en suite, and most importantly for golfers, you're right there on site with views over the fairways.

The big appeal here is the feel of the place. Rather than a large resort setup, the chateau is boutique in scale, which suits couples and small groups who want a quieter base and a bit of Normandy character around their golf. After your round, it's an easy stroll back to the chateau, and the course-side setting makes it a lovely spot to slow the pace down between tee times.

Rooms are individually styled to match the building's heritage, while still aiming for comfort after a day on the course. If you're the sort of golfer who likes to be first to the tee, you'll appreciate how straightforward the mornings are, breakfast then straight out to the course without any transfers.

The surrounding countryside and the nearby Eawy Forest give you plenty of scope for a walk and a change of scenery if you fancy time off the course. For groups, the limited number of rooms is also worth noting. It's ideal if you're booking early and want everyone under one roof, but availability can be tighter than at a bigger hotel.

The chateau's location on the estate means you can walk to the first tee, and there's something to be said for staying in a building with genuine heritage rather than a purpose-built golf hotel. The intimate size also makes it a good fit for small societies or groups who want a characterful venue without the bustle of a larger resort. Whether you're planning a long weekend or a longer stay, the Chateau du Vaudichon provides a peaceful, elegant base that enhances the overall Saint-Saens experience.

Unfortunately for whatever reason we found ourselves for 3 nights in what is referred to as the Annex. Although being assured that these were the best rooms, they had no air conditioning and no windows that could be opened to let air in. It was extremely uncomfortable conditions to sleep in especially with the increased temperatures. Although after complaining fans were found for the room but this was inadequate as clothes and bedding began to get damp with no outside air flow. The usual buffet breakfast is no more and each morning the breakfast offered was bread, croissants, packet toast together with jams, tea, coffee and juice. Staff in the morning were on most occasions very rude. It came to a climax when having played our morning golf to find that the chef had something to do and left at 2pm leaving no one to provide lunch of any kind. We were advised to go to Dieppe, over an hour away. A meeting took place with management to voice these concerns and apparently we weren’t the only groups to have shared their views. Not a happy time.

A quaint & charming Chateau set in picturesque countryside close to the small town/village of Saint Saens. The Chateau is quite dated however it compensates for this in other ways e.g. location, restaurant, etc.
