Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort

Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort sits on Mauritius' south coast, which is exactly what you want if your idea of a golf holiday includes proper peace and quiet between rounds. You're tucked away on the edge of a turquoise lagoon with the mountains behind you, so it feels private without being remote, and you can step straight from the gardens onto the beach.

It's a 5-star all-inclusive golf destination with a relaxed, Mauritius-first feel rather than a flashy mega-resort vibe. The buildings are low-rise, the paths are lined with coco palms and you'll quickly get used to the "shoes off, cocktail on" rhythm after golf. If you're travelling with a partner or a group where not everyone plays, it's a safe pick because there's enough going on to keep everyone happy, even on a non-golf day.

What really makes Awali work for golfers is how easy everything is. You can get a morning tee time, be back for lunch, then decide whether you're heading to the spa, the pool or straight into the lagoon for a snorkel. Right, it's still a luxury resort, but it doesn't feel stiff and that's a big part of its appeal. The Seven Colours Spa is one of the largest on the island, with 20 treatment rooms and seven massage rooms, plus beachside therapy options that come highly recommended. There are three swimming pools, two floodlit tennis courts, a beach volleyball court and a well-equipped fitness centre, alongside non-motorised watersports including kayaking, snorkelling and sailing. The Infinity Blue cocktail bar overlooks the lagoon, and the billiards room is ideal for post-round unwinding.

Who is this for? Golfers who want a high-end, all-inclusive Mauritius golf holiday with beach time, strong spa facilities and a quieter south-coast setting.

Who is it best for? Couples and small groups who want quality golf and easy downtime without the busier resort feel you can get in the north-west.

Heritage Golf Club

Golf can be played at Le Chateau and La Reserve courses, the designers have created layouts that match the spectacular local landscape. Wound around the imposing Chateau De Bel Ombre and its exotic gardens, the Heritage Golf Club is among the south coast's most beautiful, affording views not only of the sea, but also the Black River Gorges nature reserve, which borders many of the holes.

Accommodation at Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort

Heritage Awali's accommodation is built for comfort and space, with 154 deluxe double rooms, five suites and one private villa. Every room opens onto a private balcony or terrace, most with views over the gardens, pools or lagoon, and all are fitted with air conditioning, satellite television, telephone, minibar and electronic safe. The décor is contemporary tropical, clean-lined and uncluttered, with natural materials, neutral tones and splashes of colour from local art and textiles.

Rooms are generous in size, with king or twin beds, walk-in showers (suites add bathtubs) and enough wardrobe and drawer space for longer stays. The suites step up in scale and privacy, with separate living areas, larger terraces and upgraded amenities, while the private villa is ideal for families or groups wanting total seclusion with dedicated service. Housekeeping is discreet and thorough, and turndown service is standard.

The all-inclusive package covers meals and drinks across the resort's venues, with a strong choice of cocktails, wines and spirits. Specific premium brands and champagne inclusions can vary by package, so it's worth checking what's included for your travel dates. You've got several dining options across the week, from buffet-style themed nights to beachside à la carte. Zafarani serves Indian Ocean and Creole cuisine with live cooking stations and themed evenings, Savana focuses on grilled meats and seafood in a relaxed poolside setting, and Boma offers African-inspired dishes around an open fire. Reservations may be required for certain venues, but the variety across the week is strong enough to avoid repetition.

For golfers, the layout works well. The course is a short buggy ride or 10-minute walk from the main resort buildings, with its own clubhouse, pro shop, practice range and putting green. Post-round, you can head straight to the spa, the beach or one of the pools without backtracking. The resort may also offer access to other courses in the Heritage portfolio for guests wanting a second 18 holes during their stay, subject to package and availability, and tee times are easy to arrange through the concierge.

The Seven Colours Spa is set in its own tropical garden with treatment rooms that open onto private courtyards. Therapies range from traditional Mauritian massages using local oils to Ayurvedic rituals, facials and body wraps, and the beachside massage pavilions are worth booking. The spa also includes a hammam, sauna, Jacuzzi and relaxation lounges, and couples' treatments are popular.

Three pools cater to different moods: a main infinity pool with ocean views, a family pool with shallow areas for children and a quieter pool area near the spa. The beach is pristine, protected by the reef and ideal for swimming, paddleboarding and snorkelling. Non-motorised watersports are included, as are two floodlit tennis courts, beach volleyball, pétanque and a well-equipped gym.

Evenings are low-key but varied, with live music most nights, themed dinners and the option to retreat to the Infinity Blue bar for cocktails and lagoon sunsets. The billiards room and library offer quieter alternatives, and the resort's size means it never feels overcrowded, even at full capacity. Staff are attentive without being intrusive, and the service standard is consistently high across restaurants, spa and golf operations.

Overall a very good resort with beach front location . Excellent staff and food quality. Upgraded to premium all inclusive which I felt was not good value for money

The trip, on the whole, was excellent. The course is beautiful and a real challenge, and is really well maintained. Unfortunately the back 9 was often closed due to water-logging (we weren't aware that the course often water-logged at this time of year) and often we weren't able to take buggies which was quite difficult as the course is long between tee and green. However, the overall experience was great and we would definitely return (although maybe later in the year).

First rate facilities with the friendliest and most welcoming staff. Fabulous food and drink, pretty much everything you could ask for on that front. Location is a bit isolated for walking around outside the resort complex. Strong current just offshore and lots of coral in the sand, so best advised to get some water shoes if you want to dip in the ocean. Spa is excellent!

Rooms were very comfortable and staff great. Savannah buffet restaurant very average and limited availability for other restaurants so make sure you book before you travel. The beach adjacent to the hotel is not suitable for small children due to a continuous very strong current and sharp, crushed coral underfoot. The watersports were only available for one day during our eight day stay due to high winds, tide conditions and speedboat broke down. So this is not a good choice if water sports are a priority for you. The weather was terrible and rained heavily on most days.

Well appointed accommodation with Garden view. Designed in such away that you feel secluded on the balcony. Beds very hard so if you suffer with this ask for a "soft topper". Service excellent. water sports non existent if you are not visiting during day time high tide as the lagoon is very shallow. Weather can be very fickle and the island does not grow so lush without a lot of rain. umbrellas provided by the hotel.

Very nice hotel, great facilities, perfect for families, couples and golfing. I choose it purely for the golfing. Your golf helped to organise everything. I was slightly concerned about a few reviews that claimed the hotel wasn’t a 5 star one. Not sure if they went to the right hotel, but it was certainly 5 star. Very nice finish everywhere. Only slight complaint would be with the drinks service everywhere. At breakfast plan 20 minutes before you want a drink and even more for evening meals. The staff are paid the bear minimum so they struggle to keep the good staff. I would go there again however

Most staff are amazing, one bad experience in a restaurant- but the manager made up for this and ensured we were happy again. Food is excellent, in fact the buffet is amazing so don't worry if you cannot get booked into the restaurants its not a bad thing! Adult only pool is a great idea and quiet and relaxed holiday can be had if that's what you want.

The position of the Awali Hotel is fantastic on the ocean, close to the golf course, and all restaurants, bars and swimming pools all have a sea view, as did our room. After a long flight and an early morning arrival the staff were very welcoming, but also very keen to persuade us to upgrade, book restaurants before we had even seen them and we were mis-informed about opening times of the main restaurant which hurried us into making decisions which were not in our best interest and added quite substantially to our cost. Our bedroom was a good size, rather tired in decoration, the open "walk in wardrobe" was in the bathroom which we thought did not assist with the outside humidity. The staff came to do turn down service at 6.30pm rather early as one of us was usually in the shower and we asked for a later time but staff changed and the message was not passed on. There was one main bar which served a lot of areas, and although there were plenty of staff, service was slow and if they were serving one or two tables any ice in your drink had melted if you were last to be served. The restaurants were well organised the "C Beach" restaurant offered for us, the best ambiance, attention by staff and variety of menu which was traditional Mauritian and lovely. The gardens and pool areas were very well maintained although at no time did we see anyone checking pool water. The other guests that we met helped enhance the experience within the Hotel.

Our ocean view room was very comfortable and the views over the pool and out to the beach and ocean were beautiful, just what you expect when you imagine Mauritius. The room was cleaned every day and the mini bar restocked as required. We found the the choice of food in the main restaurant adequate, nothing exceptional, but we certainly didn’t go hungry. One big disappointment was The Italian restaurant. The service was dreadful, we waited a full hour after our order before getting our main course. (We didn’t have starters). We could see others diners were also waiting a long time too. The meal itself was warm not hot but I didn’t send it back because I’d waited so long!
