Hotel Barrière L'Hotel du Golf Deauville

Set in the rolling Normandy countryside, Hôtel Barrière L'Hôtel du Golf Deauville is a classic stay-and-play option for UK golfers who want plenty of golf with minimal faff. Golf Barrière Deauville has 27 holes across the Diane Barrière and Lucien Barrière courses, regularly talked about among the best in France, with the hotel sitting right at the heart of the complex and delivering unparalleled on resort comfort.

The big win here is convenience. You're around three hours from Calais or a ferry ride from Portsmouth, and once you arrive, everything's on-site. Get breakfast in, head out for 18 (or go again and make it 27), then swap the spikes for the pool, sauna or a post-round massage.

It also works well for mixed groups. Non-golfers have the outdoor pool, tennis courts, cycling routes and Deauville's seafront nearby, plus the Casino Barrière for an evening out.

Who is this for? Golfers who want a high-quality French resort with 27 holes on the doorstep and proper off-course facilities.

Who is it best for? UK groups and societies planning a weekend or short break, couples who want golf plus relaxation and anyone who likes playing multiple rounds without travelling between courses.

Golf Courses at Hotel Barrière L'Hotel du Golf Deauville

Diane Barrière Course

The 18-hole championship course is the most recognised golfing symbol of Golf Barrière Deauville, built in 1929 by Tom Simpson.

With views over the stunning Normandy coastline and the Vallée du Pays d'Auge, Simpson's creation is famed not only for its spectacular setting, but also for its lightning fast putting surfaces. At 5,958 yards, it is certainly not particularly by modern standards, but considerable guile and deft touch are required to conquer this superb championship track.

Lucien Barrière Course

The legendary Sir Henry Cotton added to the existing 9 holes with the Lucien Barrière Course, which may not be a full round, but is certainly a fascinating and challenging proposition. Winding through the classic Norman countryside, Cotton's creation adds much to the diversity and choice on offer at Golf Barrière Deauville, and is well worth playing during your next golf holiday in the popular coastal region.

Accommodation at Hotel Barrière L'Hotel du Golf Deauville

Perched on the green hills of Mont Canisy with views back towards Trouville Bay and the English Channel, the Hôtel Barrière L'Hotel du Golf Deauville is an easy base for golfers, with the courses, practice areas and hotel facilities all close at hand.

All 171 rooms and suites look out over the surrounding fairways and come equipped with modern facilities designed to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The Chantal Peyrat-designed interiors strike a balance between warmth and luxury, with a range of room types to suit different group sizes and budgets. Whether you're travelling as a couple, a fourball or a larger society group, there's a layout that works.

The hotel's facilities go well beyond the basics. The private outdoor swimming pool is ideal for unwinding after a round, while the fitness centre, Turkish bath, sauna and stretching rooms cater to golfers who want to stay loose or recover properly. Five tennis courts and dedicated cycling trails offer alternatives if you fancy a break from golf, and the health and beauty salon specialises in rejuvenating massages, perfect for easing any post-round stiffness.

In the local area you can get out on the water, try your hand at motor sports or go horse riding if you want to explore beyond the resort. For evening entertainment, the Casino Barrière Deauville sits just down the road, perched opposite the sea. It's a large, glamorous venue with video slot machines, English and French roulette, poker, blackjack and craps tables, adding a bit of buzz if you want a night out beyond the resort.

Dining at the hotel covers both formal and relaxed options. Le Lassay is the main restaurant, a refined dining room serving an outstanding à la carte menu with regular dinner dances for a more social evening. Le Green, the bar and restaurant, offers a more laid-back setting, the kind of place where you can sit down with a drink, go through the scorecard and work out where you dropped those shots on the back nine. Both venues deliver quality food and service, rounding out a resort that understands what golfers want from a French golf holiday.

The Hotel du Golf Barriere was superb. YGT said we would be upgraded if possible and we were. Our rooms were large, very well appointed with superb views over the golf course, Deauville and the coast and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. The bar was expensive but the 50% 'happy hour' (actually a 'happy 2 hours'!) brought the prices down to an acceptable level. The evening restaurant menu was OK but could not be described as 'fabulous' and, unusually, it didn't change on a day to day basis. The staff were excellent and the breakfasts were the best we have eaten anywhere in the world. From a location perspective, the hotel is well placed for golf with several very good courses within reasonable driving distance and the course at the hotel is a beautiful parkland course (3 x 9 holes) that you could easily play for several days without needing to leave the hotel

The hotel and the staff were lovely, we used the outdoor pool and the spa facilities on a warm October afternoon, it was lovely quiet and clean. The room faced onto the golf course and out to sea which was wonderful. The facilities in the room were excellent. The only down side were the cost of the drinks, hugely overpriced! Although they give a voucher for 30% off in the golf club bar which shut at 6pm, that didn’t extend to the hotel. I thought France was a wine country but the cheapest bottle to go with dinner being almost £40 is a bit excessive.

A quality hotel except their concept of alcohol charges were off the chart.
