Alicante Golf Hotel

Alicante Resort is built around a course designed by Spanish legend Seve Ballesteros, so if you like your golf with a bit of proper strategy (and the odd moment where you mutter at yourself on the tee), you're in the right place. The layout uses the natural shape of the land nicely, with bunkering that asks you to pick a side and commit. When the Mediterranean breeze gets up, it's not a brute, but you do need to keep it in play and plot your way round rather than just hitting driver as hard as possible.

Off the course, you're in a handy spot for a Costa Blanca break. You've got the beaches within easy reach, and Alicante Airport is close enough to make short stays genuinely viable, especially for groups who don't want a faff with transfers. Back at the hotel, the vibe is relaxed rather than flashy, with gardens, pool time and spa facilities that work just as well for non-golfers as they do for anyone trying to loosen up after 18 holes.

Food and drink are a strong part of the package too. The Andra-Mari restaurant focuses on Basque classics and is backed by a respected wine cellar, while the Augusta Restaurant covers local Spanish favourites alongside international options. For a low-key finish to the day, the poolside bar is a great shout in warm weather, and the Mirador bar works well for a pre-dinner drink or a group meet-up.

Who is this for? Golfers and small groups wanting an uncomplicated Costa Blanca escape with a Seve-designed course on site, easy airport access and quality dining.

Who is it best for? Mid-handicappers and couples who want golf plus spa, pool time and the option of beach days without complicated logistics.

Alicante Golf Club

The layout stretches to 6,857 yards from the championship tee markers, and is  an unorthodox compilation, with six par-3s, par-4 and par-5 holes. This makes building a good score an unusual test, as golfers must adopt a pragmatic strategy, attacking on the long holes and playing conservatively on the testing short holes.

The intriguing mix will guarantee that you use every club in the bag, and there is no doubt that the most creative and imaginative golfers will cope best with the challenge, which certainly reflects the adventurous style of its designer.

Accommodation at Alicante Golf Hotel

The Husa Alicante Hotel offers comfortable four-star accommodation in a central Costa Blanca setting, surrounded by private gardens and well placed for both the beach and the airport. There are 156 rooms in total, ranging from solid standard rooms through to executive options with enhanced space and amenities, plus suites if you're making a proper occasion of it or want extra comfort for a longer stay.

Rooms are well equipped for a golf trip, with air-conditioning, satellite TV, high-speed Wi-Fi and a private terrace, handy for a quiet drink after your round or an early-night reset before a morning tee time. The terraces offer views across the gardens or surrounding landscape, and it's the sort of setup where you can genuinely relax without feeling like you're missing out on facilities.

The leisure side of things is one of the big draws. There's an outdoor pool for sunny afternoons, plus an indoor pool, gym, sauna and Turkish bath if you're here outside peak summer or you fancy a slower recovery day. You've also got a paddle tennis court for a change of pace, and a dedicated health and beauty area offering a broad menu of treatments if relaxation is the priority. Post-round massages, facials and body treatments are all available, making it easy to recover from a long day on the course or simply enjoy some proper downtime.

The central location and proximity to Alicante's international airport make the Husa Alicante particularly attractive for golfers flying in for a short break, while the on-site Seve Ballesteros-designed course means you can be on the first tee quickly after checking in. That combination of convenience, quality golf and resort-style facilities makes it a strong choice for short breaks or longer stays where you want to mix golf with beach time and coastal exploration.

I knew prior to departure that the hotel was undergoing some refurbishment, hence the low rating. All bar and dining was in the pool area and albeit they had made big improvements since my last visit on that particular area. With the exception of breakfast you still had to leave the hotel for refreshments. There was nothing whatsoever in the main hotel. This did not detract from a very enjoyable week. I still maintain that if there is a significant improvement to the hotel and it’s facilities this is still a great choice for a golfing holiday. 20 minutes from the airport, easy access to the course, restaurants nearby and the tram into Alicante takes 10 minutes at a cost of €1.45.

Absolutely superb. Ben Dunlop has been an absolute legend. Priced matched a dodgy competitor and everything ran like clockwork. Although the course is only 8/10 compared to some swanky golf hotel resorts, the set up is 10/10. Coming out of your hotel room into a lift, to the basement car park to 8 buggies lined up with your name on them. Fantastic. Course tight enough and great for matchplay.
