NAU Morgado Golf & Country Club

Tucked between Portimão's beaches and the forested slopes of Monchique, NAU Morgado Golf & Country Club delivers two of the Algarve's strongest layouts on one estate. The headline act is Morgado Golf, a course that earned its stripes hosting the European Tour's Open de Portugal in 2017. It's a proper championship test, the kind that rewards sensible angles into the greens and punishes loose tee shots when the wind picks up. Álamos Golf, the sister course, offers a contrasting challenge, more forgiving in places but no less engaging when the breeze turns.

What sets this place apart is the sense of space. The courses stretch across rolling terrain, framed by cork oaks and almond groves, with enough breathing room between holes to make you forget you're sharing the estate with anyone else. The Morgado Golf Hotel sits at the heart of it all, a modern base built with golfers in mind. You're just a short walk from the first tee, and the views from many of the balconies will have you itching to get back out there before breakfast is cleared.

Beyond the golf, the location works hard. You're close enough to Portimão, Alvor and Monchique for a proper evening out, but far enough removed to enjoy the quiet when you want it. The resort itself has everything you need to stay put, two pools, two restaurants, tennis courts and a clubhouse that feels more like a social hub than a stuffy members' lounge. It's the sort of place where you can play 36 holes, grab a cold beer by the pool and still have energy left for dinner.

Who is this for? Golf groups who want 36 holes on-site, straightforward modern rooms and a quieter base that's still within easy reach of Portimão and Alvor.

Who is it best for? Mixed-ability trips where competitive players can take on Morgado while higher handicaps will enjoy Álamos more. Also ideal for winter sun breaks when you want guaranteed golf and simple logistics.

Golf Courses at NAU Morgado Golf & Country Club

There are two phenomenal golf courses on-site here and neither will disappoint. An added attraction is the Algarve's largest golf academy is on-site with a large range and indoor studios, enabling you to improve your game while you are staying here .

Morgado do Reguengo

This is a relatively mature feeling course thanks to the great many olive trees around the course, and that has added to the aesthetic beauty of the natural surroundings, which are dominated by the imposing Monchique mountains. Golfers of all abilities will love Morgado do Reguengo as it has been built with multiple tees; although it measures a mighty 7,300 yards from the tips.

Alamos

This 6,600 yard course is relatively open from the tee, but its large greens are extremely tricky. The enormous putting surfaces are noted for their severe slopes, and are guarded by treacherous bunkers.

The raised greens play havoc with club selection, while Alamos is also punctuated with a number of hazardous water features; in fact, the course is formulated around three large lakes, which provide both excitement and aesthetic beauty. Alamos has received much praise in its short time on the Algarve, and is a real pleasure to enjoy during a holiday in this golfing paradise.

Accommodation at NAU Morgado Golf & Country Club

The Morgado Golf Hotel wraps itself around the 36-hole complex, close enough to the clubhouse that you can roll out of bed and onto the first tee without breaking a sweat. The rooms are spacious, modern and air-conditioned, each with a balcony that overlooks either Morgado or Álamos. It's the view that gets you thinking about your opening tee shot before you've even had your coffee.

Inside, the rooms are clean-lined and designed for golf groups, with satellite TV, a minibar, direct-dial phone and a hairdryer, plus daily housekeeping that keeps things fresh without fuss. The balconies are the real draw, wide enough for a proper sit-down with a drink after the round, watching the sun drop behind the fairways while you replay the day's highlights and lowlights.

The hotel runs two restaurants, both leaning into Portuguese flavours with enough international options to keep groups happy. The menus are straightforward, fresh fish, grilled meats and easy crowd-pleasers, with good local wine on the list. It's the kind of food that fuels another 18 without weighing you down. There are two bars as well, one by the pool and another indoors, both ideal for post-round debriefs or pre-dinner aperitifs.

Outside, two freshwater pools offer a proper cool-down after a hot round, and the tennis courts are there if anyone in the group fancies a change of pace. The resort feels self-contained in the best way, you can stay on-site and never run out of things to do, but the location also makes it easy to explore. Portimão's marina and beaches are a short drive south, Monchique's mountain trails and thermal springs are just as close to the north, and Alvor's old town and seafood restaurants are within easy reach for an evening out.

What makes the Morgado Golf Hotel work is its lack of pretension. It's not trying to be a five-star spa retreat or a flashy resort with a golf course bolted on. It's built around two excellent courses, with everything else designed to support that. You're here to play, and the hotel makes sure nothing gets in the way of that.

We were upgraded to a Duplex Room, which was fantastic and huge. Hotel itself, is nice and modern. The Restaurant is buffet style, but you will not be disappointed with either the choice or the quality of the food, both were excellent. Great place to stay for a golfing trip and only a 20 min taxi ride down to the town and beach.

Facilities and staff were excellent, diner was ok, always plenty of choice but nothing outstanding. Typical of most hotel buffet diners so no real complaints.

A country club this is not! Semi all inclusive is basic. Rooms ok but some distance from the restaurant and bar. Little in the way of what one might expect from a “country club”. Food ok but not excellent. Very limited lounging areas . Staff excellent, however. The whole place looked in need of an uplift.

Very good facilities but an on site shop would be beneficial with cash withdrawals facilities.

The staff were excellent and very friendly , food was very acceptable, the rooms were very nice. The rooms had excellent showers and bathroom facilities and the bed was large and comfortable. There was plenty of space for two people and a nice veranda overlooking the Morgado golf course.

the rooms were very dull but the amenities were fine. the restaurant only did buffet which is okay but gets a bit much day after day. the clubhouse was good but did not really open in night. the pro shop was very expensive.

The stay was as expected and we all enjoyed it. The only possible downside was the location of our room (4402) which was a route march to the restaurant and reception. We were upstairs and therefore no balcony.
