Morley Hayes Hotel & Resort

Morley Hayes is a proper all-in-one golf resort in the Derbyshire countryside, with 27 holes, a modern four-star hotel and a handy 26-bay driving range on site. If you're organising a Midlands golf break and you'd rather not juggle tee times at one place and beds in another, this one keeps it simple.

Golf-wise, you've got 27 holes split across the 18-hole Tower Course and the Manor Course, with the Golf Pavilion clubhouse sitting at the heart of the action for food, a post-round pint and the usual golfer essentials. I also like the fact it's pay-and-play, so you're not battling member blocks for weekend tee times.

Away from the course, Morley Hayes is set up for groups. You've got 32 rooms in the hotel, plus two main food options depending on what sort of evening you want. The Spike Bar is the obvious go-to after golf, with big screens for sport and a solid beer selection, while the Dovecote is there when you want something a bit more 'proper' at dinner. If you're travelling with mixed handicaps, or you've got non-golfers coming along for the ride, it's the kind of venue that keeps everyone happy without any fuss.

Who is this for?

Golfers or groups looking for a straightforward, all-in-one Midlands golf break with on-site accommodation, multiple courses and no weekend restrictions. Ideal for societies, couples and small groups who want parkland golf, a comfortable hotel base and the option to eat, drink and practice without leaving the resort.

Who is it best for?

Mid-to-high handicappers and mixed-ability groups who want variety in course difficulty, plus anyone prioritising convenience and flexibility over championship-level golf. Also suits golfers who value a proper hotel, good dining and a sociable bar atmosphere as much as the golf itself.

Golf Courses at Morley Hayes Hotel & Resort

Manor Course

The main attraction at Morley Hayes is the splendid Manor Course, a championship length layout that is just shy of 7,000 yards and offers a strong challenge even to low handicap golfers. Carefully sculpted fairways are fringed with semi and deep rough, placing an emphasis on accurate driving, while the well conditioned Manor Course provides a charming setting for a day's golf.

Tower Course

.The 9-hole Tower Course is the ideal option for some extra golf before or after the Manor, and equally for those still mastering the game's subtleties. This course is a great starting point for people wanting to get their aim before their golf, or continue the fun after. Morley Hayes also offers the chance to practice at its 17-bay, floodlit driving range.

Accommodation at Morley Hayes Hotel & Resort

The on-site hotel is a modern, purpose-built four-star base with 32 air-conditioned rooms, so it works well for small groups and societies who want to stay together rather than split across a couple of nearby hotels. Rooms are contemporary and unfussy, with deluxe en-suite bathrooms and the usual comforts you'd expect for a weekend golf break: decent beds, plenty of space for kit and a relaxed style that suits the overall feel of the place.

From a golfer's point of view, it's the convenience that sells it. You can check in, drop the bags, then you're only a short walk from the clubhouse and your tee time. That also means no taxis, no designated-driver debates and no messing about if you want to squeeze in some range balls before heading out. Everything you need for a golf-focused weekend is within a few minutes' walk, which is exactly what you want when you're trying to maximise time on the course rather than time in the car.

After your round, you've got a choice of atmospheres. The Spike Bar is the social hub, particularly if there's a match on, and it's exactly where most groups end up to debrief the day's disasters and the one shot they'll claim they meant. The beer selection is strong, the screens are big and the vibe is relaxed and welcoming rather than stuffy. If you're dressing up a touch, the Dovecote gives you a more formal, à la carte dinner with award-winning food in a proper restaurant setting. For something in between, Roosters keeps things casual with a bar menu that suits bigger groups who want good food without the ceremony.

The hotel itself isn't trying to be a grand country house or a boutique hideaway. It's a well-run, modern base that does the job properly and makes a solid foundation for a golf-focused break in Derbyshire. The air conditioning in every room is a nice touch, particularly in summer, and the en-suites are well appointed with everything you need. The contemporary design keeps things light and comfortable without being overly formal, which suits the resort's accessible, pay-and-play character.

Net result: it's a straightforward, comfortable base that's set up for golf, food and a pint without needing to leave the resort. If Morley Hayes looks like your sort of weekend, we can build it into a UK Golf Break with accommodation and tee times sorted.

On arriving at the hotel we were able to check in straight away (10:30), which was a pleasant surprise as you normally have to wait until the afternoon. Although the course was a bit boggy in places, due to the amount of rain, it was still playable. The Spike bar has a good selection of beers and the bar prices are reasonably priced. We had the superior Twin Rooms, which were very spacious and clean and had a good size bathroom. Our evening meal was in the Dovecote restaurant and the food was amazing, the staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Overall this is an excellent venue for golfers and non-golfers, will certainly return as this has been one of the best venue we had been too.

Everything outstanding for the money

All the staff in all departments were very helpful and courteous and with a good sense of humour. The rooms were spacious, clean and well appointed. We had a good night's sleep with no extraneous noises. The only small niggle we had was the limited menu in the restaurant. Although with 5 choices, fish, chicken, duck, steak (£3 extra) and a veggie, it did cover most bases. The quality of the food was excellent. Bar prices were a bit high but no more than you would expect for a quality hotel, £4 for Pedigree, just short of £5 for Peroni. All in all the best overnight stay we have had anywhere. We will definitely be back.

Excellent service and quality food. Staff go beyond helpful. A member of our party fell ill and needed hospital attention. They provided transport and couldn’t have been ore helpful. Restaurant stall merit a mention too. All in all a fabulous stay and we will be returning.
