Murrayshall Country Estate

Murrayshall Country Estate is one of the few Scottish venues where you can rock up for a break and have 27 holes on-site to play with, which is always a winner if your group can't agree on 'one more loop'. Set in rolling Perthshire countryside, it's a world away from the bustle of the coastal links scene, but you still get that unmistakable Scottish welcome. If you're browsing for a fantastic golf resort that blends proper golf with a peaceful country-house feel, this one deserves a look.

Right, let's be honest, Scotland's big-name coastlines and famous links courses tend to hog the limelight. But inland you'll find quieter, greener golf, more flexible tee time options and the kind of setting that makes a weekend away feel like a reset. Murrayshall sits comfortably in that sweet spot: quality parkland layouts, an intimate hotel and plenty to do when you're not chasing a score.

It's an easy pick for couples, small groups and societies who want variety without needing to jump in the car between rounds. Play 18, tack on an extra nine, then settle in for dinner and a dram with views across the estate. The golf here is built around two distinct layouts, the Championship Course and the nine-hole Lynedoch, both winding through mature woodland and open farmland that gives every round a proper countryside feel.

Who is this for? Golfers looking for a relaxed, countryside golf break in Scotland with 27 holes on-site, quality accommodation and the option to explore Perthshire's courses and scenery.

Who is it best for? Groups and societies wanting variety and flexibility in their golf, couples seeking a quieter alternative to the busier coastal resorts and mid-to-high handicappers who'll enjoy the mix of challenge and playability across both courses.

Golf Courses at Murrayshall Country Estate

Murrayshall Course

The Murrayshall Course, which is the resort's primary championship course, is a highly regarded par 73 layout that can challenge even the finest players. The 6,120 yard stretch is frequently used for national amateur events, which is testament to the quality design formulated by J. Hamilton Stutt, whose architectural influences expertise was handed down from the great James Braid.

The immaculate fairways are lined by mature woodland, while the pristine putting surfaces are protected by strategic bunkers. Murrayshall's impressive reputation is certainly justified, and is a fantastic golf break option in the stunning heart of Scotland.

Lynedoch Course

The Lynedoch Course is Murrayshall's second, and while it is not as celebrated as the main championship layout, it is thoroughly entertaining. The recently redesigned course has been renovated into a 9 hole layout that is now more fair and less physically demanding than years past. However, do not let the fact that it is only 9 holes lull you into thinking it will be a simple and uncomplicated course.

With tight fairways and bracken-filled gullies a good score will only be achieved by the most precise visitors, furthermore the towering Scottish pines and water hazards present many potential perils. Also designed by Stutt, the beautiful Lynedoch Course is the perfect foil for the resort's main event, and plays an important role in attracting many astute golf break visitors.

Murrayshall has a dedicated golf centre, with an excellent range that is the ideal place to work on your game.

Accommodation at Murrayshall Country Estate

Murrayshall's hotel has 40 rooms and suites, and the overall feel is country-house rather than big, corporate resort. Rooms lean into traditional Scottish style, but you're not sacrificing comfort, with modern bathrooms, good linens and the kind of quiet you'll appreciate after 36 holes. Suites offer a bit more space and a touch more luxury, ideal if you're treating yourself or staying for a longer break.

Downstairs, there are inviting lounges for post-round recaps, plus a bar that's well set up for a 'one turns into two' whisky moment. The hotel itself has the feel of a genuine country estate, the kind of place where staff remember your name and your preferred tee time, and service is warm and personal rather than scripted.

Breakfast is a proper pre-golf affair, and if you're heading out early the staff are used to golfers keeping odd hours. You'll find everything you need to fuel up before a morning round, and there's enough choice to suit whether you're a full cooked breakfast person or prefer something lighter.

The restaurant focuses on Scottish produce and seasonal cooking. You're not getting fussy fine dining for the sake of it, but you should expect well-executed, hearty dishes that suit a golf weekend. The menu takes considerable influence from Scottish cuisine, with locally sourced meat and ingredients that reflect the region's culinary traditions without being overly formal. If you're travelling as a society or corporate group, there are meeting and private dining spaces too, which makes it a practical base for organised trips.

Beyond golf, the estate offers a range of country pursuits, clay pigeon shooting, falconry, archery, quad biking, fishing, horse riding and tennis, making it a strong option if you're travelling with non-golfers or want to break up your rounds with something different. It's the kind of place that works well for a longer stay, where you can settle into the rhythm of the estate and enjoy golf at a more relaxed pace.

For golfers, the real appeal is the combination of on-site variety, genuine Scottish hospitality and a setting that feels miles away from the everyday. You can play 27 holes without leaving the estate, enjoy quality food and comfortable rooms, and still have easy access to Perthshire's other courses if you want to explore further afield. If you fancy building a Perthshire itinerary around Murrayshall, you can include it on your next Scotland golf break and we'll sort the tee times and the hotel around your group.
