Palacio Estoril Hotel & Golf 5*

If you fancy a proper Lisbon golf break with a bit of history behind it, the Palácio Estoril is a standout. Set in the coastal town of Estoril, it's less than 30 minutes from central Lisbon, so you can mix rounds of golf with a night in the city without turning it into a logistics project.

This is a classic 1930s five-star hotel with manicured gardens, sea air and that old-school elegance you only get in places that have been doing it well for decades. The big golfing win is simple: the hotel owns Estoril Golf, so access is easy and tee times are far more straightforward than at many top courses around Lisbon.

Estoril Golf is a Mackenzie Ross design with genuine pedigree, having hosted the Portuguese Open. Expect tree-lined holes, strategic angles and plenty of moments where position matters more than brute force. Off the course, you've got an outdoor pool for a post-round dip, plus the Banyan Tree Spa if your shoulders need rescuing after 18.

In short, if you want championship golf, a refined base and the option to dip into Lisbon's food, culture and nightlife, the Palácio Estoril ticks a lot of boxes.

Who is this for? Golfers who enjoy classic course design, plus mixed groups who want a five-star base with easy access to Lisbon.

Who is it best for? Anyone drawn to hotels with genuine stories to tell, couples looking for a refined base that balances golf with culture, and societies or groups who appreciate straightforward tee-time access and quality service.

Accommodation at Palacio Estoril Hotel & Golf 5*

The Palácio Estoril has 161 rooms and 32 suites across five floors, with a traditional five-star feel and plenty of space to spread out. Rooms are comfortably finished in classic style, and many look over the gardens towards the coastline. After a day on the course, or walking Lisbon's hills, you'll appreciate that everything is geared for proper rest rather than flashy design statements.

For golfers, the headline is convenience. Because the hotel owns Estoril Golf, getting tee times sorted is refreshingly straightforward and you're only a short transfer away from the first tee. If you're planning multiple rounds, that ease makes a difference. No shuttle buses, no complicated booking windows, just golf when you want it.

Facilities cover the post-round essentials. There's an outdoor pool for downtime between golf and dinner, plus the Banyan Tree Spa for massages and treatments inspired by Asian wellness traditions. The spa is a serious operation rather than a token amenity, with skilled therapists and a menu that goes well beyond the standard offering. If you're travelling as a couple or with a mixed-ability group, it's a strong "everyone wins" option since non-golf time feels like a treat rather than an afterthought.

Food and drink are very much in keeping with the setting: polished, but not overly formal. Breakfast is generous and designed to fuel a morning round, while the main restaurant serves locally sourced seafood, Iberian meats and seasonal produce. The wine list leans heavily on Portuguese estates, which is exactly as it should be. Dinner is reliably strong, especially if you lean towards seafood and Portuguese wines.

The bar, with its terrace overlooking the gardens, is where most guests end up post-round, swapping stories over gin and tonic as the sun drops towards the Atlantic. It's a popular spot for a relaxed drink after 18, and the atmosphere is more about unwinding than formality.

For societies and groups, the hotel works well as a base thanks to its room capacity, quality service and quick access into Lisbon for an evening out. Whether you're here for serious golf, a couples' escape or a society trip that mixes championship golf with Lisbon's culture, the Palácio Estoril offers a base that feels both special and practical.

overall, very pleased with our stay experience although I would have to say that the concierge, whilst perfectly polite and helpful, did suffer from lack of communication with his own management and was not gracious in error.

Hotel was excellent with staff who were very attentive and helpful. It was spotlessly clean and the food was great. There were facilities available to us that we were never going to use (spa/pool) in hindsight we should have booked something more basic which would have suited us - but we enjoyed the luxurious experience. The golf shuttle bus provided our only complaint - we were waiting 90 minutes for pick up from Penha Longa and one of the drivers thought he was Lewis Hamilton.

We were incredibly lucky in that we were upgraded to a suite. The hotel has so much history and the breakfasts are the best I have ever had.

This is one of the best hotels which I have stayed in. We were a mixed party of 23 with only 14 golfers but the facilities in the hotel provided more than adequate for the non-golfers. The food choices were outstanding and the staff a total delight. I couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough.

Just returned from a fantastic three night stay with two rounds of golf. The hotel is right up there with some of the best. Every staff member was very attentive and couldn't be more helpful. Alongside the hotel there is the Spa facilities, which are top notch. Being only a short walk from the beach, with lots of restaurants and bars is in a great position. The golf course was in very good condition and whilst not the longest threw up some really good challenges.Small bar area, but again very helpful staff and a good variety of snacks available. All in all a great place for a short trip. YGT looked after us really from the first contact to arriving back in the U.K. My wife and I will definitely be returning.
