Pine Cliffs Resort

Perched on Algarve clifftops above Falésia Beach and wrapped in pine trees, Pine Cliffs Resort is one of the region's best-known five-star golf and beach escapes. It's the sort of place that works for proper golf trips but still keeps non-golfers happy, with direct beach access, strong dining and plenty to do between rounds.

The headline act is the nine-hole Pine Cliffs course. Yes, it's only nine, but don't let that put you off. The famous par-3 6th plays over the Devil's Parlour, a dramatic gorge that has become one of the Algarve's most photographed golf scenes. In a sea breeze, with the Atlantic down below, it's a tee shot you'll remember long after the score is forgotten.

Off the course, you've got pools, tennis, a kids' club and a full-service spa, plus easy access to nearby Vilamoura if you want a change of scene in the evenings. For golfers planning a Southern Portugal break, Pine Cliffs is a simple one to recommend because everything is on-site and the setting is genuinely special.

Who is this for? Golfers who want a luxury Algarve resort with a bucket-list clifftop par 3, great facilities and a proper beach on the doorstep.

Who is it best for? Couples and groups who want golf, sunshine and resort comfort in one place, families who want a resort that keeps everyone happy and golfers chasing the Devil's Parlour tee shot.

Pine Cliffs Golf Course

Pine Cliffs is a famous nine-hole course that most golfers play twice to make an 18-hole day. It's not a brute of a championship test, but it's a brilliant holiday course: scenic, different to what many UK golfers are used to and, crucially, it has one genuinely iconic hole.

The par-3 6th is the star. You play from the clifftop over the Devil's Parlour, a deep gorge cutting across the line to the green. The hole isn't long on paper, but the view, the drop and the wind off the Atlantic can make club selection feel far less straightforward than it should. Get it on the putting surface and you'll be smiling on the walk to the next tee. I'll admit that I am a golfing geek, and this is one of those holes where you'll happily replay the loop just to have another go at that clifftop tee shot.

Away from the postcard hole, the course threads through mature pines with tight driving lines and plenty of emphasis on accuracy. It's a good track for mixed-ability groups because you don't need to be a big hitter to enjoy it, but you do need to keep it in play. The conditioning is excellent: fairways are firm and fast, greens are true and quick, and the rough is thick enough to punish wayward shots without being penal.

If you're playing twice to make 18, switch tees on the second loop to keep it fresh. The course is short enough that you can comfortably walk it, and the clifftop setting makes every hole feel special. It's also a great option if you want a quick morning round before heading to the beach or spa, or if you're travelling with non-golfers who don't want to wait around all day.

If you're staying at the resort, it's ideal for a quick round in the morning before the beach or spa. And if you're a golf geek, it's one of those places where you'll happily replay the loop just to have another go at that clifftop par 3.

Play Pine Cliffs on your next Algarve Golf Holiday and let us sort the tee times and the stay.

Accommodation at Pine Cliffs Resort

The hotel blends traditional Portuguese styling with Moorish touches and a calm, airy feel inside. Rooms and suites are finished in a simple, elegant style, with full air conditioning for summer stays. If you're celebrating something, it's worth upgrading to a sea-view room so you can make the most of that clifftop location. From your balcony you'll gaze directly over the Algarve coastline, with nothing between you and the Atlantic but pine trees and cliff edge.

Facilities are a big part of the appeal. There are outdoor pools across the resort, plus tennis courts and a well-equipped health and fitness club. If you're travelling with the family, the kids' club is a genuine bonus as it frees up time for golf, the spa or a long lunch. The Estética Spa offers a broad treatment menu for post-round recovery, and there's also a sauna and hot tub area if you simply want to unwind.

Falésia Beach is directly below the resort, reached via the funicular or the steps down the cliff. It's a long sweep of soft sand backed by the Algarve's distinctive red-gold cliffs, ideal for a few hours in the sun after a morning nine. The beach is widely regarded as one of the Algarve's finest stretches of sand, and the setting alone is worth the trip.

Food and drink is another strong point. O Pescador is the standout for seafood and is a smart choice for at least one evening. The fish is impeccably fresh, the preparation is classic Portuguese with modern touches, and the setting overlooks the ocean. For cocktails and a bit of atmosphere, the Portulano bar regularly has live entertainment, while the Mirador Bar is the spot for a sundowner with ocean views. If you fancy heading out, Vilamoura is close by with plenty of marina restaurants. Casa del Forno does excellent Italian and Ostra d'Ouro Grill serves sublime fresh seafood in a lively, upmarket setting.

Pine Cliffs works brilliantly for golfers because everything is on-site or within easy reach. You can roll out of bed, play nine holes, hit the spa, lunch on the terrace and still have time for the beach before dinner. It's a proper resort experience, not just a place to sleep between rounds.
