Royal Mougins Golf and Spa Hotel

Set in the hills above Cannes, Royal Mougins Golf & Spa Hotel gives you an easy hop to the coast for evenings out, while keeping you in quieter Provençal countryside between rounds. You're based at a luxury resort with its own 18-hole course, a serious spa housed in a 19th-century Provençal farmhouse and handy access to plenty of top Côte d'Azur courses. In my opinion, the best bit is the balance: you're close enough to dip into Cannes for dinner and beach trips, but far enough out to feel properly Provençal, with views that stretch across olive groves and orange trees.

The hotel sits right on the golf course, so you can walk straight from your suite to the first tee. After your round, the Royal Spa offers a genuine retreat, complete with treatments, a sundeck shaded by century-old olive trees and that particular stillness you only find in the hills of Provence. Dining is handled by La Terrasse du 18, perched beside the 18th green, where the kitchen works with local ingredients and the wine cellar leans heavily on Bordeaux prestige and Provençal vintages. Between rounds, there's a pool for lounging and a bar for cocktails. If you're looking to mix in a few rounds beyond Royal Mougins, ask us about the Côte d'Azur Golf Pass and which courses are included for your travel dates.

Who is this for?

Golfers after a luxury base in the South of France, couples combining golf with spa and coastal culture and groups wanting a resort that handles everything on-site while keeping Cannes, Nice and the best regional courses within easy reach.

Who is it best for?

Mid-to-low handicappers who want variety across multiple Côte d'Azur courses, golfers who value post-round relaxation as much as the golf itself and anyone building a golf and wine trip around Provence and the French Riviera.

Royal Mougins

Established in 1993, Royal Mougins Golf Club is an exclusive, private Club created for the sole privilege of its members and guests of the hotel. Designed by the renowned American architect, Robert von Hagge, the 18 hole championship golf course has a par of 71 and measures 6,566 yards from the tips; long enough to challenge the big hitters while being more than manageable for less experienced players. Course management and precision are paramount in order to score well on this tight, gently undulating course. Lakes, rivers are dotted all over the course and the well positioned bunkers also add to the challenge.

Accommodation at Royal Mougins Golf and Spa Hotel

Royal Mougins runs 29 suites across three categories: Superior, Deluxe and Premium. Every suite is built around space and comfort, with a separate bedroom, a kitchenette for self-catering flexibility and a living room fitted with LCD TV, DVD player and WiFi. Air conditioning is standard throughout, essential during the height of summer, and each suite opens onto a private balcony or terrace where you can sit with a glass of wine and watch the light fade over the fairways.

The layout suits golfers who like room to spread out after a round. You've got proper living space, a kitchen if you want to keep things low-key and enough separation between bedroom and lounge to make longer stays comfortable. The suites are styled with clean lines and a contemporary feel, nothing fussy, just well-judged luxury that lets the Provençal setting take centre stage. If you're travelling with a group or a society, the space works well for pre-dinner drinks or post-round debriefs without everyone piling into a standard hotel room.

Dining centres on La Terrasse du 18, positioned right beside the 18th green with views across the course. The menu is built around fresh, locally sourced ingredients, the kind of cooking that reflects the region without overcomplicating it. Whether you're after a light lunch between rounds or a full evening meal, the kitchen delivers, and the wine cellar is stocked with serious bottles from Bordeaux alongside a strong selection of Provençal wines. If you're spending the afternoon by the pool, the bar serves snacks, drinks and cocktails, so you can stay poolside and make an afternoon of it.

The Royal Spa is housed in an authentic 19th-century Provençal country house, surrounded by orange trees and ancient olives. Inside, it's all warm wood, natural light and the scent of essential oils, designed to pull you out of everyday stress and into something slower. Treatments range from sports-focused massages to more indulgent spa options, ideal after 18 or 36 holes, and the sundeck outside is the kind of place you settle into for an hour or two, letting the Provençal sun do its work. For golfers who take recovery seriously, or couples balancing golf with downtime, the spa is a genuine asset, not just a box-ticking amenity.

Between the suites, the dining, the spa and the pool, Royal Mougins is set up for golfers who want a resort that works as a base for exploring the Côte d'Azur's courses while offering enough on-site to make staying put equally appealing.
