Sandy Lane

Sandy Lane is one of the big-name stays in Barbados, and if you're the sort of golfer who likes their holiday with a side of "pinch me" luxury, this one's hard to beat. You've got three courses on site, a seriously good spa, a private beach and service that's as polished as the greens.

The headline, of course, is Green Monkey. It's a Tom Fazio design carved out of an old quarry and it's only available to Sandy Lane guests, which gives the whole place that rare "members-only" feel without the membership. Alongside it you've got The Country Club and The Old Nine, both offering a more traditional resort-golf look and feel, with plenty of coastal views when the landscape opens up.

Off the course, Sandy Lane leans into privacy, space and calm. If you want your own retreat within one of the Caribbean's most celebrated resorts, it delivers, and it's a great shout for couples, small groups and mixed parties where not everyone wants 36 holes a day. If you're browsing other standout options in the region, you can also explore our picks for the best golf resorts in the Caribbean.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want a true bucket-list round at Green Monkey plus two on-site courses, couples and mixed groups who need five-star beach and spa time alongside golf, and small groups who like privacy, great food and a resort that feels special without being noisy.

Who is it best for?
Golfers happy to pay for exclusivity, standout service and a big-name Caribbean resort, players who want golf in the morning and a proper luxury resort afternoon (spa, beach, cocktails), and travellers who value seamless logistics and like everything handled for them.

Fancy making Green Monkey the centrepiece of a proper bucket-list trip? Speak to the team and we'll build tee times, transfers and the right room category around it.

Golf Courses at Sandy Lane

Green Monkey Course

The Green Monkey is the name on everyone's list in terms of Caribbean golf. Named after the local primates with whom golfers share the Sandy Lane experience, the Green Monkey is an awe-inspiring new championship track devised by the great Tom Fazio.

Carved amazingly into an old quarry, the course is only available to resort guests, and is a formidable challenge from the 7,389 yard Masters tees. The signature hole, and the new hallmark of Fazio's creation, is the sand-surrounded grass island carved into the shape of the legendary Bajan Green Monkey.

If you are a serious golfer, Sandy Lane's Green Monkey belongs in the elite group of the world's most spectacular courses, alongside the likes of Pebble Beach and Kingsbarns.

Accommodation at Sandy Lane

Accommodation at Sandy Lane is unapologetically five-star and, importantly for a long-haul trip, it's spacious. The resort has 112 rooms and suites, with an average size around 900 sq ft, so even the entry categories feel generous. Expect modern comforts like a 42-inch TV, HiFi system, in-room safe and private bar, plus bathrooms with multi-spray showers and heated mirrors. Every room includes a private veranda, with views across the gardens or out towards the Caribbean.

If privacy is high on your list, it's worth looking at the top categories. The Sandy Lane Suite and The Villa at Sandy Lane are the statement options, giving you noticeably more space and a more secluded feel, while still keeping you close to the restaurants, spa and beach. If you're travelling as a couple, it's the sort of upgrade you'll feel every day rather than just at check-in.

The other reason people come back is the service. It's attentive without being overbearing, and it makes a difference when you're juggling tee times, spa bookings and dinner reservations. Staff pay attention to the smallest detail, whether you're on the course, at the spa or simply relaxing by the pool, and it's that level of care that sets Sandy Lane apart from standard five-star resorts.

Beyond the rooms, the resort facilities are exactly what you'd expect from a property of this calibre. The Spa at Sandy Lane sits in a Romanesque building fronted by a waterfall that cascades into the freeform swimming pool. Each spa suite includes a private shower and changing area, and treatments draw influence from the Caribbean, Europe and the Far East, all delivered by Barbadian therapists who combine skill with genuine warmth.

You'll also find floodlit tennis courts, a freshwater pool and a private beach managed by personal attendants, where you can unwind or try the resort's selection of water sports and diving. Families travelling with children will appreciate The Treehouse Club, where kids can enjoy supervised activities and attractions across the resort.

Dining at Sandy Lane is exceptional. L'Acajou serves haut cuisine built around the freshest local seafood, while Bajan Blue offers a more casual setting without compromising on quality. Across the resort's five bars, the Green Monkey bar is a favourite, serving freshly mixed cocktails in a relaxed atmosphere that captures the best of Caribbean hospitality.

If you want us to recommend the best room category for your group size and budget, we can guide you through the options and build it into a complete package.
