The Sea Pines Resort

Perched on the southern tip of Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, The Sea Pines Resort covers 5,000 oceanfront acres and is one of those places that genuinely works for a proper golf trip and a family escape in the same week. You've got beaches, trails and water sports for the non-golfers, plus tennis at the Sea Pines Racquet Club, while the golfers disappear for 18 and come back smiling, or occasionally slightly humbled.

If you're here for the golf, you're spoiled. There are three championship courses on site, each with its own feel. Harbour Town Links is the big name, a tight, tactical test where placement matters more than brute force. Atlantic Dunes brings more air and movement, mixing seaside stretches with that unmistakable Low Country look. Heron Point keeps Pete Dye's trademark risk-reward questions, but it's playable enough that mid-handicap golfers can enjoy the challenge rather than just survive it.

Off the course, the resort's dining is varied and easy, from steaks at Surfside Grill to seafood at Topside at the Quarterdeck. In short, if you want a Hilton Head base that keeps golfers and non-golfers happy, Sea Pines ticks a lot of boxes.

Who is this for?

UK and European golfers planning a long-haul, bucket-list Hilton Head trip, plus mixed groups who want proper resort facilities, beaches and activities alongside three strong courses.

Who is it best for?

Groups and societies who want course variety without transfers, confident golfers keen to take on Harbour Town, and planners who value a one-stop resort base with dining, tennis and beach time built in.

Golf Courses at The Sea Pines Resort

Harbour Town Golf Links

This beautiful 18 hole set up is the co-creation of famed designer Pete Dye and the legendary Jack Nicklaus who was used as a consultant. The course is a testing links which places an emphasis on a golfer’s ability to think their way a round of a golf course as opposed to simply blasting it off the tee, perhaps this is why it is a favourite of many of the tour players.

The course is famed for boasting some of the most jaw dropping par 3s in the game of golf, as well as being home the one of the most feared finishing holes in the world. With the course having the parents it has, it is no wonder that Harbour Town Links has racked up a whole host of awards from being one of the best courses in the state to one of the best in North America. When staying at The Sea Pines Resort this 18 hole set up is an unmissable golfing opportunity.

Heron Point

Heron Point is another incredible course that will be right on your doorstep when staying at Sea Pines Resort. The 18 hole set up is another wonderful creation of famous architect Pete Dye, who after recently overseeing renovations to the course in attempt to make it more player friendly has truly outdone himself slightly.

The biggest challenge around the course is mental as many of the holes are laid out in a fashion that will reward risk but test a player’s skill level to execute the attacking shot. Accuracy is imperative when playing Heron Point and it is important not to get distracted by the beautiful view or your ball may end up in one of the four inland water hazards the course has.

Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III

The 3rd world class golf course that is right on your doorstep when staying at The Sea Pines Resort is the Atlantic Dunes Course. The course is a complete redesign of the first golf course built on Hilton Head, The Ocean Course. The project was headed up by no other than 2012 U.S.A Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III who has certainly delved deep into his wealth of golfing knowledge to create a truly spectacular course.

Love is no stranger to Hilton Head’s golf courses either having won the RBC Heritage on the Harbour Town Links 5 times. The newly designed Atlantic Dunes skirts the natural pine trees that inhabit the island and incorporates the stunning sand dunes to make this a very aesthetically pleasing course. Player’s require both mental and physical golfing capabilities to get their way round what is a testing 18 hole layout.

Accommodation at The Sea Pines Resort

The Inn at Harbour Town

The Inn at Harbour Town is widely regarded as one of the top places to stay on Hilton Head Island, and a stay here makes it clear why. This is boutique luxury done properly, with 60 rooms wrapped around Harbour Town Marina and views that stretch across the water or down the 9th fairway of the famous Links course. The design leans into Low Country elegance without tipping into fussiness, blending rich fabrics, dark wood and thoughtful detail into spaces that feel both refined and genuinely comfortable.

Every room comes with a supremely comfortable bed, a minibar and bathrooms finished to a standard you'd expect from a top-tier property. The Fairway Suites take things further, adding private balconies that overlook the 9th hole on Harbour Town Links, perfect for morning coffee or an evening drink while watching groups finish their front nine. It's the sort of detail that makes a golf trip feel special rather than simply functional.

The outdoor pool area is a highlight in its own right, offering a quiet spot to relax between rounds or after a morning on the tennis courts. Loungers and shade make it easy to spend a few hours here without feeling like you're wasting the day. The setting, tucked into the marina district with restaurants and bars a short walk away, means you're never far from the action but still feel removed enough to unwind properly. Staff know the courses, understand what golfers need and can arrange tee times and transport without fuss.

Apartments and Villas

For larger groups, families or golfers who prefer space and independence, the apartments and villas scattered across the resort offer a different but equally compelling option. These self-contained units range from Resort-level properties through to Deluxe and Premier grades, each equipped with full kitchens, multiple bedrooms, air conditioning, modern entertainment systems and private outdoor space. It's the sort of setup that works brilliantly for society trips, extended family holidays or anyone planning a longer stay who wants the flexibility to cook, spread out and settle in properly.

The villas sit in various locations across the 5,000-acre estate, meaning you can choose proximity to specific courses, the beach or the marina depending on what matters most to your group. Views vary from fairway-facing to ocean glimpses, and the Premier tier properties push into genuinely luxurious territory with upgraded finishes, larger layouts and enhanced privacy. All units benefit from housekeeping services and access to resort amenities, so you're not sacrificing convenience for the extra space.

What makes the villa option particularly appealing for golfers is the ability to create your own rhythm. Early tee times mean you can grab breakfast in your own kitchen and head straight to the course. Post-round, there's space to debrief over a beer on your own terrace rather than crowding into a hotel bar. For groups mixing golf with family time, it means non-golfers have room to relax while the players are out, and everyone can regroup in the evening without feeling on top of each other. The setup also works well for those combining golf with the resort's other attractions, from the 23-court Sea Pines Racquet Club to the beaches and network of trails that make Hilton Head such a well-rounded destination.

Our stay was very enjoyable. The situation near to the tee one is really fine and it was very close to the club house.
