Stoke Park Golf & Country Club Resort

The exclusive Stoke Park Country Club and Resort is home to one of the finest golf courses in Europe, a superb 27-hole complex that holds the rare distinction of being one of just two 5 AA Red Star golf clubs in England. Established in 1908 as Stoke Poges Golf Club, the estate now features three distinctive nine-hole loops designed by Harry Shapland Colt, which tells you pretty quickly what sort of day you're in for. The 350-acre resort is built upon centuries-old turf of a former deer park, landscaped by "Capability" Brown and Humphry Repton, and sits just 10 miles from London Heathrow with easy access from the M4 and M40. With Heathrow just up the road and quick motorway access, it's an easy win for a UK golf break when you want five-star comfort without the long travel day.

The course has earned its place among the 'Top 100 Courses in the World' according to Golf World. And yes, it's a film set as much as it's a golf resort. The famous golf battle between Sean Connery's James Bond and Gert Fröbe's Goldfinger was shot here, along with scenes from Tomorrow Never Dies, Layer Cake and the iconic mini-break sequence in Bridget Jones's Diary.

Who is this for? Golfers seeking a five-star resort experience within easy reach of London, combining championship golf on a Colt-designed layout with luxury accommodation, fine dining and extensive leisure facilities including tennis, spa and fitness.

Who is it best for? Serious golfers who appreciate classic parkland architecture and want to play a course with genuine pedigree and film history, plus groups and societies looking for a prestigious venue that can host corporate golf days, events and conferences alongside quality golf.

Stoke Park Golf Course

The enchanting courses encircle the club’s monumental palatial clubhouse and have fully stood the test of time more than a century since their inauguration. Harry Colt is best known for his incredible construction of putting surfaces and the greens are without doubt the highlight of Stoke Park, showcasing perfectly the designer’s ability for subtlety and purity.

Followers of Colt’s creations, of which there will be many, will know that the 7th hole is widely regarded to be the single finest that he produced, and is said to be the inspiration for Augusta National’s spine-tingling short 16th.

Stoke Park was included in Golf World’s list of the world’s Top 100 Golf Courses, which grants a good insight into the quality of Colt’s layout. With natural surroundings to rival the remarkable character of the club’s stately home, Stoke Park is a phenomenal golfing destination, and one that is the ideal escape from London.

Accommodation at Stoke Park Golf & Country Club Resort

Just 10 miles from London Heathrow airport and a 40-minute drive from central London, Stoke Park is a world away from the hustle and bustle. The five-star resort offers 49 bedrooms and suites across two distinctive accommodation styles. The traditional Palladian Mansion house features 21 luxury bedrooms and suites with fine works of classic art, antiques and open fireplaces, the sort of rooms where you half expect to find a leather-bound first edition on the nightstand. The contemporary Pavilion offers 28 luxury bedrooms and suites with pop art, wet rooms and modern furnishings, providing a style to suit all tastes. If you're travelling with a mixed group, that variety matters, some will want the heritage feel, others will prefer the clean lines and rainfall showers.

All accommodation is set within 300 acres of beautiful parkland estate and benefits from access to the resort's extensive facilities. Stoke Park Spa uses the luxurious Thalgo range of products and has been named a 'Top Ten British Spa' by Tatler. The treatment menu includes age-defying facials, algae body wraps and Polynesia rituals, while the state-of-the-art gymnasium and first-class health and racquet facilities cover everything from weights and cardio to personal training. If you're travelling with non-golfers, the spa, gym and tennis offering makes this an easy sell for the whole group.

The resort features three restaurants. Humphry's fine dining restaurant holds three AA Rosettes and is Stoke Park's culinary landmark, where executive chef Chris Wheeler, who trained under Jean-Christophe Novelli, has garnered acclaim for his innovative menu. It's the sort of place where you'll want to book ahead and dress properly, but the food justifies the effort. San Marco offers classic Italian cuisine in a more relaxed setting, while The Orangery serves delicious meals and afternoon tea with views over the estate. Between the three, you've got enough variety to keep a long weekend interesting without needing to leave the grounds.

Beyond golf and dining, the resort boasts 13 tennis courts, including six Wimbledon-specific grass courts, four all-weather courts and three indoor courts, plus 14 acres of private gardens, a crèche, games room and mini football pitch. Windsor Castle, the Thames, Legoland, Windsor and Ascot racecourses all provide excellent off-resort activities within easy reach, which is handy if you're bringing family or need to fill a rest day.

Stoke Park is also one of England's most prestigious meeting and events venues, offering eight remarkable private rooms with striking décor and individual antique pieces. The resort hosts corporate golf days, tennis and spa days, conferences, awards dinners, incentive days and Christmas parties, all supported by a team of experienced event coordinators. Full audio-visual capability, WiFi and high-speed connectivity ensure the facilities are as functional as they are stylish, though you're really here for the setting and the service rather than the tech spec.

Quality of service is fundamental at Stoke Park. The staff are always attentive but never overbearing, creating a friendly, welcoming environment where guests and families can relax and feel immediately at home. It's the sort of place that gets the balance right between five-star polish and genuine warmth, which isn't as common as it should be.
