Tazegzout Golf Course

Fifteen minutes north of Agadir, Tazegzout sits at the heart of Taghazout Bay Resort with the Atlantic as a constant backdrop and Argan trees framing fairways that run alongside Taghazout Bay and its long sandy beach. This is a young course, but it's already building a strong reputation among golfers who want ocean views and a routing that makes the most of the cliffs and contours. It's a very 'holiday golf' feel, but with a proper coastal edge when the wind gets up.

I'll be honest, if you're the sort of golfer who takes too many photos on a golf course, you'll be busy here. Several holes offer direct sightlines to the bay below and the combination of natural terrain and smart bunkering gives the layout more bite than you might expect from a resort course. The wind is the main defence, especially on the more exposed coastal stretch, so it's a course where you need to pick targets and commit rather than just lash driver and hope.

There's room from the tee on plenty of holes, so you can hit driver, but you'll still need a plan into the greens where bunkers are set to catch the bail-out. Green speeds vary through the year, but they can feel nippy when the breeze is up, and that's when distance control becomes the difference between a good score and a frustrating one. If you struggle with club selection in wind or you're not confident shaping shots, you'll find this layout asks questions. For confident ball strikers who enjoy coastal golf with strategic bunkering and quick greens, it's a proper test without being punishing.

The wider Taghazout Bay development includes surf breaks, coastal trails and a relaxed village atmosphere, making this a solid choice for golfers who want a mix of quality golf and beach time without the formality of some of the older resorts further north. Fancy a round here? Include Tazegzout on your next Agadir golf holiday and we'll help you build a package around the tee times.

Tazegzout

Located just 15 minutes from Agadir, Tazegzout Golf Club, not to be confused with the area of Taghazout Bay itself, takes pride of place on a dramatic patch of land that sits high above the Atlantic Ocean and offers golfers breaking views from start to finish.

Designed by Kyle Phillips, the par 72, 6,730 metre layout at Tazegzout golf course spreads across 76 hectares of land and is perched 80m above sea level, with each hole enjoying breathtaking views of the ocean. The course meanders through the natural Argan vegetation, rising to a crescendo on the final 3 holes, which are played over two deep rocky ravines and finally along the 80m cliff edge. The finishing holes at Tazegzout Golf are a spectacular test and will provide endless stories to retell on the terrace of the magnificent clubhouse.

An indication of the quality on offer here comes in the form of its designer. Tazegzout Golf opened for play in 2014 and before that, Phillips had completed work on the likes of The Grove, host of the 2006 WGC American Express Championship won by Tiger Woods, and Kingsbarns which is widely considered to be one of the best links courses in Scotland, not to mention many, many others.

Early holes take you inland up uphill, with fairways that cut their way through the rugged desert mountain landscape and between giant bunkers that are definitely best avoided. Eventually, the course turns towards the coast and comes to a crescendo over the final 3 holes which are among the most exciting in all of Morocco.

It’s a tough call due to the fact that there are so many standout options, but we’d argue the Signature Hole comes at the par 3 17th, where the tee shot is played over a rocky chasm to a dramatic green that seems perched on the edge of the world. This do or die hole is as tricky as it is beautiful, with the Atlantic just a few hundred meters to the left providing the perfect backdrop. The par 5 18th hole isn’t too shabby either, taking you all the way back along the coast to the clubhouse which, yes you guessed it, boasts spectacular ocean views.

Rated as the 7th best golf course in Morocco, Tazegzout is a must for anyone looking to embark on an Agadir Golf Holiday.

Accommodation at Tazegzout Golf Course

Hyatt Place Taghazout Bay sits right next to the first tee, which is ideal if you want early tee times without faffing with transfers or long drives before breakfast. Expect modern, unfussy rooms with a relaxed resort feel and easy access to the beach club area for post-round food and a sundowner. The hotel works well as a sociable base rather than a super-formal 'golf palace', and there are enough nearby bars and restaurants in the wider Taghazout Bay development to keep evenings easy without needing to jump in a taxi.

For groups, it's a good shout because the layout and facilities suit mixed-ability parties who want golf, beach time and a bit of nightlife without the stuffiness you sometimes get at older Moroccan resorts. If you're travelling in winter, it's also a smart choice for mixing golf days with downtime, whether that's a pool session, a stroll along the coastal paths or just sitting on the terrace with a drink and watching the surf roll in. The hotel has a gym and there's spa access nearby if you fancy a massage after walking 18 holes on a windy day.

If you want to play a lot of golf during your stay, check tee time availability when you book and ask about package options that bundle rounds and transfers from Agadir airport. The course is walkable from the hotel, which is a nice touch, and the resort vibe means you can easily fill non-golf days with beach time, surfing or exploring the local village without needing a car. For couples or small groups who want a straightforward, modern base with golf on the doorstep and the Atlantic a few minutes' walk away, Hyatt Place Taghazout Bay ticks the boxes.
