The Green Hotel, Golf & Leisure Resort

Tucked into the countryside on the edge of Loch Leven, The Green Hotel, Golf & Leisure Resort is a cracking base for a classic central Scotland golf break. You get two full 18-hole courses at Kinross Golf Club just across the road, a traditional coaching inn feel and countryside scenery that is pure Perthshire.

If you like your trips simple and golf-led, this one makes life easy. Roll out of bed, grab breakfast and you are at the first tee in minutes. Between rounds you have the Loch Leven Heritage Trail on the doorstep for an easy leg-stretcher, plus plenty of space around the loch to switch off.

The big selling point is variety. With 36 holes on site you can keep the group entertained without juggling travel or tee time logistics, which is exactly what you want on a short break. Add in the option to tour nearby venues in Perthshire and Fife and you have a trip that works for a quick two-nighter or a longer Scottish loop. St Andrews is around an hour away, and courses like Blairgowrie and Auchterarder are even closer if you fancy mixing parkland with links.

Who is this for?
Groups and couples who want an easy, golf-first Scottish break with 36 holes on site and a traditional hotel base that does not overcomplicate things.

Who is it best for?
Golfers who enjoy strategic parkland, value walk-to-the-tee convenience and want the option to add a day trip to Fife or explore more of Perthshire without moving hotels.

Golf Courses at The Green Hotel, Golf & Leisure Resort

Montgomery Course

The Montgomery Course is fair for the weekend or occasional golfer yet the course provides a test for the more accomplished and experienced player. The Montgomery's statistics (6,508 yards, par 72, SSS 72) are not jaw-dropping yet why have so few good golfers broken 80 on this course? The addition of new white tees plus 19 new bunkers and a pond made life a little more difficult but perhaps the answer to the question can be found at the very first hole, a slightly downhill short hole where most will consider the 161 yards from the white tees to be less than daunting.

Yet any shot that misses the difficult green will, more often than not, lead to a bogey. And so it goes on The Montgomery: many holes may seem straightforward on the scorecard yet the subtleties of the design combine with penal bunkering and challenging green complexes to create a course that makes consistent scoring difficult. A stern test to relish!

Bruce Course

If The Montgomery is the sensible, polite, and determined sister destined for a life of professionalism and hard work, then The Bruce is the sister who is less predictable and more likely to stray off the beaten path. Proof comes in the par-39 outward nine where you'll find four par-5s in the space of six holes.

Yes, the challenge is a little gentler on The Bruce. Weekend golfers often find The Bruce is more to their liking but the better golfer who sees four early par-5s and thinks, "that's four birdie holes" often finds their card in shreds embarrassingly early in the round. Yet sometimes, even a modest golfer finds a way to take advantage of the scoring opportunities that The Bruce presents.

Golfing at Kinross fits in perfectly with the tranquil, classically traditional atmosphere of a stay at The Green Hotel.

Accommodation at The Green Hotel, Golf & Leisure Resort

The Green Hotel is a traditional Scottish coaching inn dating back to the eighteenth century, sitting just across the road from Kinross Golf Club's two championship courses. It is a historic property with plenty of character, the kind of place that feels rooted in its surroundings rather than polished to a modern resort finish. That works well for golfers who want a genuine Scottish experience without the corporate feel of larger hotel complexes.

Rooms are traditional in style and geared to golfers who want a comfortable base rather than a glossy resort feel. They are well-maintained, with enough space for your kit, and the focus is on hospitality rather than luxury. If you are travelling as a group, it is worth requesting twins early and asking about space for clubs. The hotel is used to hosting golf groups, so they understand the logistics of early starts, packed lunches and keeping clubs secure overnight.

There are two dining options on site. Basil's Grill is the main restaurant, offering a more formal setting with a menu built around Scottish produce and classic grill dishes. It is a solid choice for evening meals, particularly after a long day on the course when you want something substantial. The menu covers steaks, fish, game and vegetarian options, with a decent wine list to match. For something more relaxed, Jock's Bar Coaching Inn serves lighter fare in a traditional pub setting, with a menu that covers everything from sandwiches and bar snacks to hearty mains. It is the kind of spot where you can grab a quick bite between rounds or settle in for a pint and a burger after your final putt.

The Courtyard Bar is the natural post-round gathering spot, with a good selection of drinks and a laid-back atmosphere that suits groups and couples alike. It is where most golfers end up after their round, swapping stories and settling bets before heading in for dinner. If you are here with a society, it is worth asking about private dining or group menus, as the hotel can usually accommodate larger parties with a bit of notice.

The hotel's location is one of its strongest assets. You are a short walk from both golf courses, with direct access to the Loch Leven Heritage Trail if you want to stretch your legs between rounds. The estate itself is vast, offering plenty of space to unwind, and the surrounding Perthshire countryside is worth exploring if you have got time. For golfers planning a longer trip, the hotel works well as a base for touring central Scotland, with easy access to courses in Fife, Perthshire and beyond. If you are putting together a central Scotland itinerary, it is an easy one to slot into a longer Perthshire and Fife tour.

Comfortable hotel. We would have liked a softer bed. Also the wifi wasn’t working in the rooms. Apart from the above would recommend.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Choice and quality of the food menu was excellent. Good selection of beers, including some fine ale from the brewery in Kinross. For our twin room booking was actually a family room with two bedrooms and a bathroom which suited us well.
