The Grove

Designed by Kyle Phillips of Kingsbarns fame, The Grove is one of the Home Counties' big-name rounds, and it has the tournament CV to back it up. Tiger Woods won the 2006 American Express World Golf Championship here and the venue returned to the spotlight when Luke Donald hosted the 2016 British Masters after an eight-year absence from the European Tour schedule.

On the course, Phillips mixes mature woodland with open parkland and asks you to think your way round. Water is in play on key stretches, bunkering is placed to punish the lazy line and you'll score best by keeping the ball in position rather than simply sending it. When conditions are up, it can feel properly championship, especially if you miss the fairway and start coming in from the wrong angle.

Just off the M25, it's also one of the easiest top-end golf venues to reach from London and the airports, which is exactly why it works so well for a society day or a quick luxury escape that doesn't involve a long drive.

Who is this for? Golfers, societies and corporate groups who want a high-end UK golf day or weekend within easy reach of London.

Who is it best for? Mid-to-low handicappers who enjoy a strategic championship test, plus couples or mixed groups where the spa and facilities matter as much as the golf.

Golf Courses at The Grove

The Grove

The 7,152 yard course is a resort style stadium track that you may think would be more at home in America, with its massive, undulating greens and expanses of sand. But The Grove has been a welcome addition to the United Kingdom's golfing portfolio, and is ideally equipped to play host to the foremost professional tournaments.

Phillips has blended his golf course into the natural surroundings with great sympathy, and has used the latest technology, including cutting-edge A4 creeping bent grass to ensure firm, fast putting surfaces. Among many fantastic holes is the superb 4th, a daunting par-3 which requires a good long iron to carry the water, characterising the memorable experience of a round on Phillips' truly excellent club.

2016 British Masters

As mentioned, The Grove played host to the 2016 British Masters with a high-profile field including the likes of Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell, Matthew Fitzpatrick and The 2012 Ryder Cup Captain Jose Maria Olazabal. All the players commented on the fantastic condition the course was in, and in particular the super slick greens which added to the challenge. Alex Noren of Sweden came out on top come Sunday with an impressive score of 18 under par. He birdied two of the last 4 holes on Sunday to win the event by 2 shots ahead of Bernd Wiesberger.

The Grove is ranked as one of the best courses in London and the South East

The Kingdom at the Grove

Turn your next luxury escape into an unforgettable breakthrough for your game. In an exclusive partnership with TaylorMade Golf, The Grove is proud to introduce The Kingdom, a premium, tour-level custom fitting experience seamlessly integrated into your golf break. Born in California and sustainably built with both performance and comfort in mind, this world-class facility brings together the art and science of golf to measure, analyse, and expertly tailor every single shot to your unique swing. It marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our golf offering, and we cannot wait to welcome you.

Adding The Kingdom to your package allows you full access to the new 320-yard driving range and a expansive 4,000-square-metre short game area designed by Kyle Phillips, which features strategically shaped target greens inspired by the original California kingdom. You can even add a personal touch to your trip by watching the technicians assemble your custom clubs live in the on-site workshop.

Accommodation at The Grove

The Grove has 214 rooms and suites split between two distinct styles. The West Wing is modern, bright and easy, ideal if your group wants contemporary comfort close to the action. The Mansion leans into classic country-house luxury, with period features, open fireplaces, four-poster beds and a more traditional feel. Both wings deliver five-star comfort, but the choice between them comes down to whether you prefer clean, contemporary lines or 18th-century grandeur.

Off the course, it's a proper five-star resort. Sequoia Spa, a past Condé Nast Best UK Spa Retreat winner, is a real selling point for couples or mixed groups, with treatments using Bamford and Natura Bissé products. There's also an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and spa pool, plus outdoor tennis courts. And yes, it even has its own beach, a 17,000-square-foot sand area with an international-standard volleyball court, which is as unexpected as it sounds.

Food-wise, The Glasshouse covers a wide brief with live cooking stations, wood-fired ovens, rotisseries and woks, while The Stables is the more relaxed option for an easy breakfast or a post-round bite in a converted outhouse setting.

If you want tour-venue golf without the faff of a long trip, The Grove is a cracking shout. Give us your dates and group size and we'll line up tee times and rooms to suit.

Fantastic hotel, fantastic staff, can honestly say that the grove was the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Only one disappointment was that we couldn’t get into our room until 5 even though check in was at 3.
