Golf Courses at Woodbury Park Hotel, Golf & Country Club

Oaks Golf Course

The championship Oaks Course measures a mighty 7,314 yards at its fullest, and has established an enviable reputation as one of the best in the South-West. J. Hamilton-Stutt's layout is carved through the wonderful oaks that characterise the estate itself, and will present a considerable test for even the most talented golfers. The putting surfaces are guarded by expanses of sand, and are constructed to European Tour standards. The quality of the Oaks was underlined in 2003 when the course was selected to host a Seniors Tour championship.

As a very playable golf course, The Oaks at Woodbury is one that is suitable for a host of handicaps and contributes to Woodbury Park's position as one of the top-rated golf resorts in the South West of England.

The Oaks was also the host venue of The McGregor Trophy, a leading amateur event for U16 golfers with past champions including Justin Rose, Edoardo Molinari and Oliver Fisher. When played at Woodbury, Michael Skelton claimed the coveted title with a 4-round total of 289. Skelton's amateur career continued to sparkle with the highlight being appearing in The Walker Cup.

Acorns Golf Course

The nine-hole Acorns Course provides the perfect opportunity for a relaxing round if the lengthy Oaks seems too daunting, and is also ideal for those still learning the game. The joy of the Acorns is that its greens are maintained to the same high standard as its neighbour, while the views over the Exe Valley are truly memorable.

The 18th hole on the lakes will test your nerve - under the watchful gaze of those in the clubhouse, your approach shot must carry the threatening lake.

Hotel was comfortable - but nothing special. Décor a little tired. Booked half board, breakfast was acceptable, but dinner was of extremely poor quality, so much so that we ate out on our second night, which was an added expense. Dinner was served in the clubhouse, we were allocated a table near the window, I put my handbag on the floor and saw snail trails all over the carpet - totally unacceptable. I have an allergy to shellfish - staff couldn't tell me if the fish fritters were safe for me to eat.

The restaurant was a big let down. The evening meal was served in the club house in a conservatory which meant a 600 yard walk from the hotel in the open air which when it rained meant we got very wet both going and returning. he menu was very limited and did not change during our 4 nights stay. There were no vegetarian options on it. We had been before and had liked it but we will not be returning again. Very disappointing.

Receptionist very friendly and welcoming. Found it strange we had breakfast in the actual hotel but had to go to the golf club for dinner. Good varied choice on the menu, well presented and waiter very attentive. Breakfast was ok.

Our stay here was very pleasant. The rooms were more than adequate for what we needed. The Spa facilities were very good. The dinner in the evening was excellent on both occasions. The only slight negatives were that the breakfast wasn’t the best and after dinner you had to stay at the restaurant bar as the other bar shut at 9.30.
