If you're heading to Tenerife's south coast for winter sun, Golf del Sur is an easy win. It's close to Tenerife South Airport, has Atlantic views on plenty of holes and the volcanic terrain gives it a look and feel you don't get at home.
The course is made up of two different nine-hole loops, Links and North, so your round has a bit of variety built in. The Links side feels more exposed, so expect the breeze to be a factor and be ready to keep the ball down if it freshens up. The North nine turns slightly inland and brings in more shaping and definition, with tighter-looking driving lines framed by volcanic rock and local planting.
It's a great pick for mixed-ability groups. There's space off the tee on a lot of holes, which helps higher-handicappers keep it in play, but it's not a pushover. When the wind is up and the greens are running, you'll need to plot your way round and pick the right side of the fairway to give yourself a proper look at the flag. The course drains well thanks to the volcanic soil, so it plays year-round even when Tenerife gets its brief winter showers.
Right, the practical bit. You'll see volcanic rock edging fairways and bunkers, plus plenty of movement in the land that makes stance and yardage judgement interesting. The greens are quick and undulating enough to keep single-figure players honest, but there's enough width to let confident ball-strikers open their shoulders.
Who is this for? Golfers after winter sun, quick transfers and a course that changes character with the coastal wind.
Who is it best for? Mixed-ability groups and mid-handicappers who enjoy a strategic test without it feeling overly punishing.
