Occidental Fuengirola

Occidental Fuengirola sits right on the beachfront in the middle of town, which means you get easy access to Fuengirola's restaurants, bars and promenade alongside quick runs to some very playable golf courses. You're not tucked away in a quiet resort bubble here. This is a proper Costa del Sol base where you can play solid golf during the day, then walk straight into the evening buzz without needing a taxi or a plan.

The golf offering is straightforward and well positioned. Chaparral, Cabopino and Calanova are all within 20 minutes, each bringing a different character to your rounds. Between them you'll find wide fairways, rolling greens and well-placed hazards, with the sea on one side and the hills on the other giving you that classic Costa del Sol scenery on the way round. The courses test your game without punishing it, and the variety means you can mix things up depending on what the group fancies or how the handicaps stack up.

If you want a quieter, tucked-away resort with nothing going on after dark, this probably isn't it. If you want golf, beach access and plenty of evening options once the clubs are back in the room, it's a very sensible pick. The beachfront position makes this a smart choice for mixed groups or families where not everyone is playing every day and Fuengirola itself delivers on nightlife and restaurants without feeling overrun or too touristy.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want a lively Costa del Sol break with quick access to courses, a beachfront setting and plenty of evening options in a proper town centre.

Who is it best for?
Social groups and mid-handicappers who want to play good courses during the day and enjoy Fuengirola's restaurants and bars in the evening, plus anyone travelling with non-golfers who'll actually use the beach and town-centre location.

Accommodation at Occidental Fuengirola

The hotel spreads across 316 rooms, many with sea-view balconies that let you watch the Mediterranean while you plan the next day's tee times. Every room comes with air conditioning, satellite TV, direct-dial telephone and radio, covering the essentials without trying to be something it's not. The rooms are straightforward and practical for a golf stay, with the basics covered and balconies on many sea-view options for a post-round drink.

Two outdoor pools anchor the leisure facilities, surrounded by sunbeds and two-person loungers with canopies when you need shade. The fitness studio is complimentary and properly equipped, with weights and cardio machines if you want to keep moving on non-golf days. The poolside areas get plenty of Spanish sun, and the beachfront position means you can walk straight onto the sand when you fancy a change of scene. There are areas to unwind by the poolside, and the setup works well for golfers who want to relax between rounds without needing to leave the hotel.

The hotel features four dining areas, comprising two restaurants, a snack bar and a lobby bar, giving you options without forcing you to head into town when you don't feel like it. Restaurant Arrozante is the standout, leaning into traditional Spanish cooking with a focus on rice dishes and seafood. The kitchen knows its way around Valencian Paella and Arroz Caldoso, the kind of proper rice dishes that justify the restaurant's name. The menu leans into seasonal seafood and local produce, and the wine list covers the usual Spanish favourites with enough range to find something that works. The Mediterranean approach to cooking, simple ingredients done well, comes through in the dishes, and it's worth booking a table if you want to eat in rather than heading out.

Beyond Arrozante, you've got a second restaurant, a snack bar and a lobby bar, which means you can grab something quick by the pool or settle in for a longer meal depending on how the day's gone. The setup suits golfers who want flexibility, whether that's a full sit-down dinner after a long round or just a sandwich and a beer before heading into Fuengirola for the evening.

That said, Fuengirola is worth exploring. The town delivers on nightlife, with enough bars and restaurants to keep things interesting across a week-long trip. The beachfront location makes this a smart choice for mixed groups, families with non-golfers, or anyone who wants their golf break to include more than just golf. It's the classic Costa del Sol setup, beach, courses and a proper night out, all within easy reach.

Great location for the golf, bars and restaurants, also not to far from the airport.

Excellent hotel. I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the poor WiFi and water temperature consistence.

The hotel has clean and comfortable if rather spare rooms. The breakfast is good. We did not eat dinner there. It is near the coast path and has easy access to the rest of the town's amenities.

Value for money sums this one up, we were transferred here at last minute as our original Hotel choice cancelled us one week before flying; rooms were spotless recently renovated, the staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful, the food was ordinary but ok, little old fashioned in the communal areas and a little further south than we would have chosen, but don't be put off, it was fine.

For the length of time that we were in the Hotel it was adequate and for "older" golfers nice and quiet, some of the staff maybe needed to go on a customer liason course and they could certainly do with hiring new cleaners !!

The room in this hotel was awful. We had dirty linen on our beds, no fridge (our friends did , we asked for one and never got it) we also asked for towels as the ones we had had holes in. We had 4 light bulbs out on our arrival, this was done. The breakfast wasn’t great either. Cold coffee out of the machines and flies on all of the food as it wasn’t covered. Not quite sure why you would put your guests in this hotel. It hasn’t had a refurbishment since the 70s. We would never stay here again.
