Sol Marbella Estepona - Atalaya Park

Tucked between Estepona and Marbella, Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park sits around five minutes by car from Puerto Banús, far enough inland to escape the coastal crowds but close enough to feel the Mediterranean breeze. Right, here's the key bit. You're close to Málaga airport and you've got a stack of Costa del Sol courses within an easy drive, so it's a handy base if the group wants variety.

You're ideally placed for the 36 holes at Atalaya Golf & Country Club (Old Course and New Course), which is the main golfing draw for staying in the Atalaya area. Atalaya Golf & Country Club is close by, with El Paraiso Golf Club also a short drive away. For groups with mixed abilities or families where not everyone swings a club, the sheer range of activities, from pools to kids' clubs to evening entertainment, means nobody is left twiddling their thumbs.

If you're after a boutique hideaway, this isn't that. It's a big, lively resort that's set up to make golf trips easy, especially for societies and mixed groups. The 50,000 square metres of subtropical gardens give the place a sense of space and calm, even when the resort is busy. Whether you're here for a long weekend with mates, a family holiday where golf is part of the plan or a week-long tour of Andalucía's finest courses, this is a straightforward, good-value base that works brilliantly for golf groups.

Who is this for? Golfers who want a reliable Costa del Sol base with loads of facilities, easy transfers and plenty of nearby course options for a 3 to 7-night trip.

Who is it best for? Society groups and families where golf is the main event but not the only plan, thanks to multiple pools, kids' club and evening entertainment.

Atalaya Golf & Country Club

Golf can be played at Atalaya Golf & Country Club, renowned for its two exceptional golf courses: the Old Course and the New Course. Established in 1968, the club is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the region, offering a unique golfing experience amidst stunning natural surroundings largely free from housing developments.

The Old Course, designed by renowned architect Bernhard von Limburger, features wide fairways that gently undulate among mature trees and vibrant flora. It presents a classic layout that challenges golfers of all skill levels while providing breathtaking views of La Concha mountain and the Mediterranean Sea. The course is celebrated not only for its beauty but also for its strategic design, which rewards accuracy and thoughtful shot selection.

In contrast, the New Course, opened in 1990 and designed by Paul Krings, offers a different yet equally engaging challenge. Situated in the hills above the Old Course, it emphasizes precision over distance, with many holes featuring elevation changes and sloped greens. This course also showcases panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and Gibraltar, making it a picturesque setting for a round of golf.

Accommodation at Sol Marbella Estepona - Atalaya Park

Set within 50,000 square metres of subtropical gardens, Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park is built for volume and variety. With 484 guest rooms, including 33 suites and 15 bungalows, this is a resort that can handle large groups, society trips and families without breaking a sweat. Every room comes with air-conditioning, mini-bar, safe deposit box and a spacious terrace, the kind of setup that works whether you're collapsing after 36 holes or settling in for a quiet evening with a cold beer and a view.

The room types range from standard doubles to family-friendly bungalows, ideal for those travelling with kids or anyone who prefers a bit more space and privacy. Suites offer extra comfort and are popular with couples or smaller groups looking to upgrade. The decor is functional rather than flashy, but everything you need is there, and the terraces are a genuine bonus, especially if you're an early riser who likes a coffee before heading to the first tee.

Beyond the rooms, the resort is packed with facilities. Four swimming pools, a health and fitness centre, a football pitch, water sports and a full entertainment programme mean there is always something happening. The Kids' Club runs themed days throughout the week, giving parents a chance to sneak off for a spa treatment or an extra nine holes. The massage and beauty centre offers a range of treatments, perfect for loosening up after a long day on the course.

Dining is covered by three main restaurants: Parole, Verbena and In&out, each serving a mix of international and local Andalucian cuisine. Bar Salado, open during high season, specialises in fresh fish and traditional Spanish classics. For drinks, the Lobby Bar offers sweeping views, the Jazz Bar serves premium cocktails in a modern setting and the Pool Bar is the spot for sunset beers. If you're not on an all-inclusive package, the coastal towns of Estepona and Marbella are just minutes away by car, offering everything from quality dining to late-night tapas bars and the golden beaches that make the Costa del Sol famous.

If you've got mixed handicaps in the group, you'll appreciate having two contrasting layouts to rotate through. The Old Course is typically the one golfers talk about first, with a more proper championship feel, while the New Course is a great second-round option if you want something a touch more forgiving or you're trying to keep everyone smiling on day two.

The description of the hotel facilities are not as advertised. There is no indoor pool, and currently no gym. The room did not offer tea/coffee making facilities, we needed to pay to have a kettle. The hot food, whilst adequate, was not varied, most times we ate from the cold counter. A lot of the hotel was closed, as were many of the facilities. The hotel was approximately 3kms from the golf course which meant the cost of a taxi to and from the course. Not a 4 star hotel service.

Newly refurbished. Not to everybody's likening. 8 euros a day car parking at the hotel is a bit much as car parking outside the grounds is very limited.

the hotel is a brand new build,so there are a few issues which after a few seasons i hope would be sorted " only one person serving in each of the bars" Slow and having to queue. Prices for drink and snacks reasonable, plenty of entertainment through out the day and night of a good standard, rooms of a good size and cleaned everyday, but a bit sparse on storage , three pools and plenty of loungers.Food issues on breakfast always cold , eggs bacon ,porridge ,but a wide selection on offer for the evening meal.
