Sol Marbella Estepona - Atalaya Park

Set between Estepona and Marbella and only a short hop from Puerto Banús, Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park is a handy Costa del Sol base if you want plenty of golf with proper resort facilities on tap. You're slightly inland, so it's quieter than the beachfront strips, but you're still close enough to mix morning tee times with an afternoon on the sand or an evening out.

Golf-wise, the big pull is the 36 holes at Atalaya's Old and New courses nearby, with plenty more options along the coast if your group fancies variety. If you're the sort who likes to keep transfers simple, you can focus on Atalaya and settle into a routine. If you're on a tour-style trip, you can add in other favourites within an easy drive, including El Paraiso Golf Club.

Málaga Airport is roughly 45 to 60 minutes away depending on traffic, which makes it workable for a long weekend as well as a full week in the sun. And when you're not playing, you've got pools, bars and entertainment on site, so non-golfers won't feel like they're just tagging along.

If your priority is maximum golf with minimum hassle, this is the kind of place that makes it easy.

Atalaya Golf & Country Club

Golf can be played at Atalaya Golf & Country Club, renowned for its two exceptional golf courses: the Old Course and the New Course. Established in 1968, the club is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the region, offering a unique golfing experience amidst stunning natural surroundings largely free from housing developments.

The Old Course, designed by renowned architect Bernhard von Limburger, features wide fairways that gently undulate among mature trees and vibrant flora. It presents a classic layout that challenges golfers of all skill levels while providing breathtaking views of La Concha mountain and the Mediterranean Sea. The course is celebrated not only for its beauty but also for its strategic design, which rewards accuracy and thoughtful shot selection.

In contrast, the New Course, opened in 1990 and designed by Paul Krings, offers a different yet equally engaging challenge. Situated in the hills above the Old Course, it emphasizes precision over distance, with many holes featuring elevation changes and sloped greens. This course also showcases panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and Gibraltar, making it a picturesque setting for a round of golf.

Accommodation at Sol Marbella Estepona - Atalaya Park

Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park sits in around 50,000 square metres of subtropical gardens and it's built like a proper all-in resort. There are 484 rooms in total, including 33 suites and 15 bungalows. Rooms are straightforward and practical for golf trips, with air conditioning, safe, minibar and a terrace looking over the gardens or pool areas. If you're travelling with clubs and you're up early for tee times, it does the job without fuss.

On-site facilities are where the resort earns its keep. You've got four swimming pools, a health and fitness centre, a football pitch, water sports and a day-to-night entertainment programme. Families are well looked after with a dedicated Kids' Club running themed activity days, which is ideal if one half of the party wants to squeeze in an extra nine while the other heads for the pool. There's also a massage and beauty centre for a post-round reset.

Food and drink is spread across four restaurants and four bars. The Parole, Verbena and In&Out restaurants cover international and local menus. Bar Salado, open in high season, focuses on traditional Andalusian dishes and fresh fish. For a pre-dinner drink, the Lobby Bar has views over the grounds, the Jazz Bar leans more cocktail-led and the Pool Bar is a great shout around sunset.

If you're not going all inclusive, you're a short drive from both Estepona and Marbella for a bigger choice of restaurants, bars and beach clubs, plus the classic Costa del Sol beaches. The resort's position, slightly inland but close to the action, gives you the best of both worlds: a quiet, self-contained base with everything you need on site and quick access to the buzz of Puerto Banús, the old-town charm of Estepona and a golf course list that runs deep along the Costa del Sol.

The description of the hotel facilities are not as advertised. There is no indoor pool, and currently no gym. The room did not offer tea/coffee making facilities, we needed to pay to have a kettle. The hot food, whilst adequate, was not varied, most times we ate from the cold counter. A lot of the hotel was closed, as were many of the facilities. The hotel was approximately 3kms from the golf course which meant the cost of a taxi to and from the course. Not a 4 star hotel service.

Newly refurbished. Not to everybody's likening. 8 euros a day car parking at the hotel is a bit much as car parking outside the grounds is very limited.

the hotel is a brand new build,so there are a few issues which after a few seasons i hope would be sorted " only one person serving in each of the bars" Slow and having to queue. Prices for drink and snacks reasonable, plenty of entertainment through out the day and night of a good standard, rooms of a good size and cleaned everyday, but a bit sparse on storage , three pools and plenty of loungers.Food issues on breakfast always cold , eggs bacon ,porridge ,but a wide selection on offer for the evening meal.
