Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Club

With a reputation for some of Ayrshire's best putting surfaces, Kilmarnock Barassie brings over a century of proper west coast links golf.

Designed by Theodore Moon and dating back to 1887, Barassie has tested golfers for generations and it has the championship CV to back it up, including hosting the 2021 R&A Women's Amateur Championship. You'll also be treading the same fairways as Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, José María Olazábal, Graeme McDowell, the Molinari brothers and Tom Weiskopf.

Expect a classic out-and-back links layout where the wind does plenty of the talking. There are firm fairways when it's dry, deep pot bunkers that demand respect and gorse that will happily swallow a wayward tee shot. The greens are the standout feature, known for being quick and true, so if your approach play is even slightly off you'll feel it with the putter.

Barassie also has a unique amateur record as the most represented club in Walker Cup history, with four members across five Walker Cups, which tells you everything you need to know about the standard of test you're in for.

Include Kilmarnock Barassie in your next Ayrshire golf break if you want traditional links golf with elite-level greens.

Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Club

A recent development has added a further nine holes, and the championship course is now an intimidating prospect, with a standard scratch of 74. Designed by Theodore Moon we have an extensive history and have been offering golfers a magnificent links golf challenge since 1887.

Over the past thirty years Barassie has added to its championship links. With a new par 3 12th hole, and re-design of the 6th on the links we are sure golfers will enjoy a testing Scottish links which overlooks the isle of Arran.

Testament to the quality of the golf course is that it has hosted many Amateur Championships such as The Boys Championship and the Amateur Qualifying in 2001, and is a regular on the Open qualifier circuit. While the welcome is warm, the facilities are also excellent, including a well-stocked professional's shop and fantastic catering..
