The Rabbit restaurant is the hotel's main dining room, named after Hole 17, Royal Troon's trickiest par three, which you can see from the window. Expect smart, modern cooking in a relaxed setting, ideal for anything from breakfast through to a proper dinner after 18.

For something more relaxed, The Seal bar, named after Royal Troon's opening hole, is a come-as-you-are spot where you can drop in for drinks or a meal any time of day. You can see the first hole from the bar, and it's the kind of place where you can settle in after a round, swap stories about the wind on the back nine, and enjoy a pint or a bite without any fuss.

The on-site spa is a real highlight, featuring a wide range of restorative treatments in partnership with UK skincare specialists ishga and Made For Life Organics. The treatment menu includes indulgent facials and body treatments using natural products, perfect for unwinding after a day on the links. Guests also have access to the leisure facilities, including a heated indoor pool with views of the coast, sauna, squash court and gym, so you can stretch out, relax, and get ready for the next round.

Royal Troon is the headline act and the hotel's position beside the closing holes makes it feel properly 'in the golf'. If you're travelling with a group, it's worth planning tee times early, especially in peak season, as demand for Open rota courses is high year-round. The Old Course is a classic out-and-back links that starts gently along the coast before turning back into the prevailing wind, and the stretch from the 8th (the famous Postage Stamp) through to the finish is as good as links golf gets.

The wider Ayrshire coast is stacked with quality links too, so you can build a brilliant multi-round break without spending your life in the car. Western Gailes, Dundonald Links, Prestwick and Glasgow Gailes are all within a 20-minute drive, and each offers a different test and a different slice of Scottish links character. Troon itself is a handy base, with straightforward road and rail links from Glasgow and Prestwick airports, and plenty of scope to mix serious golf with beach walks and a spa session.
